    The reduction of a popular bus service to Bridlington will disadvantage elderly people wanting to visit the resort, according to Bridlington's tourism association.

    The Coastliner bus service, which runs from Leeds to Bridlington,is being cut from three daily buses to just one.

    The association has appealed to the operators to think again, but it's believed they have been battling rising operating costs.

  2. Thousands sign Sheffield Lord Mayor petitionspublished at 08:14 British Summer Time 10 July 2018

    More than 6,000 people have signed a petition calling for Magid Magid to be removed as Sheffield's Lord Mayor.

    It comes after the Green councillor announced last week that Donald Trump is banned from the city during his state visit to the UK.

    The petition writer says: "Councillor Magid is bringing the role into disrepute and turning the city into a laughing stock."

    Another petition, started to gain support for the mayor, says "Magid is a noble individual who cares about the city of Sheffield."

    It's so far been signed by 219 fewer people than the petition calling for the Lord Mayor's removal.

    The 2018 Tour de Yorkshire boosted the county’s economy by £98m, according to research released this morning.

    The study, commissioned by Welcome to Yorkshire, shows more than two and a half million spectators lined the route over the four days of action in May.

    The figures show 79% of the spectators were from Yorkshire, while 21% came from other parts of the UK and abroad.

    The cycling also attracted more than twelve million viewers on television throughout the four days of racing last May.

    Final preparations are under way for the Great Yorkshire Show, external which will open for the 160th time today.

    More than 130,000 visitors are expected at the showground in Harrogate over three days, as well as 8,500 animals.

    Gates open at 07:30 this morning.

    Visitors are being reminded not to follow their sat-navs when heading to the show, but instead to follow the signed routes.

    There's still no sign of a Yorkshire diver who's been missing since Sunday afternoon.

    Lifeboat crews and a coastguard helicopter spent yesterday searching for the 74-year-old, who was diving two miles off the North Yorkshire coast at Scarborough when he vanished.

    A police underwater search team also joined the operation to try and find him yesterday.

    The coastguard have said they are no longer involved in the search.

    Beggars who were posing as homeless people on the streets of Bradford are being prosecuted after officers discovered they were lying.

    West Yorkshire Police confiscated signs from them, one read "I am homless and in need of some food".

    Another read "Homeless, please help. God bless you."

    Three years ago the BBC obtained figures which suggested fewer than one in five people arrested for begging in England and Wales were homeless.

  14. Four injured as man drives car at them following argumentpublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 9 July 2018

    Four people have been left injured after a man drove at them following an argument at a house party in Castleford over the weekend.

    Police say it happened at about 21:50 on Elizabeth Drive on Saturday, when a man got into a black Honda Civic after the argument.

    The car then hit two men aged 37 and 54, a 39-year-old woman was also injured when the driver allegedly assaulted her when she tried to stop him leaving the scene.

    But the Civic did drive off only to return hitting a third man, aged 30, who was left with facial injuries.

    The car then drove off but officers say no one was seriously injured.

    Firefighters in Sheffield say they think a fire at a disused church at the weekend was started accidentally.

    Three fire engines went to the blaze on Copper Street on Saturday, at about 18:00.

    Crews fought the flames for almost three hours.

    End-of-term students leaving their homes in Leeds have been accused of leaving behind piles of debris and rubbish.

    Residents in the city have complained about streets being turned into "dumping grounds" when students depart.

    The Labour councillor for Headingley and Hyde Park, Neil Walshaw, posted images of accumulating rubbish bags and urged students to dispose of their waste correctly.

    Headingley Greens also tweeted about the fly-tipping in the area, where many students live in term time, saying "enough is enough".
