    Humberside Police force has said there is more to do when it comes to recording crimes, after a government inspection found they weren't recording some crimes properly.

    Deputy Chief Constable Chris Rowley said they were pleased the report acknowledged the pro-active response they were taking to recording crime.

    However, the rules around recording crime and are very complex and have recently changed, he said.

    Chris Rowley added that the force records around 90,000 crimes a year, with the vast majority recorded correctly.

    The Inspectorate of Constabulary found the force was failing to record one in five violent crimes - some 6,200 violent crimes a year.

    How about this for up close night time owl feuding action?

    One minute a barn owl is tucking in, the next it's being knocked off its perch by a tawny.

    It was filmed by wildlife artist Robert Fuller.

    "If you watch, you can see the barn owl is tucking into its prey when it suddenly looks up to see a tawny owl approaching," he said.

    "But bam! It is too late - the tawny sends it spinning, then another barn owl swoops down, but the tawny puffs its feathers and this wise owl sweeps away."

    A former vicar sexually assaulted five "vulnerable" boys and young men, a court has heard.

    The Reverend Canon Terence Grigg, 83, of Norton, North Yorkshire, was a minister at St Mary's Church in Cottingham, East Yorkshire.

    Hull Crown Court was told the alleged offences took place in a variety of locations between 1983 and 1996.

    Mr Grigg denies nine counts of indecent assault and two serious sexual assaults.

    The trial continues.

    Heavy rain and storms have caused flooding and powercuts across the BBC Tees region overnight.

    Almost 2,000 homes were left without power in the Yarm, Ingleby Barwick and Thornaby areas, with another 580 properties in the TS15, TS8 and TS9 areas also hit.

    Some roads across Teesside, County Durham and North Yorkshire have been affected by flooding with police urging drivers to take extra care this morning.

    The funerals are taking place over the next few days of four young men killed in a car crash last month in Leeds.

    A service for 21-year-old Caelan Megson is being held this afternoon.

    Caelan was the driver of a Seat car, which police say was travelling "at speed" when it collided with a taxi in Horsforth on Saturday 30 June.

    He and three friends, Brandon Frew, Declan Grove and Matt Walshaw, all died at the scene of the crash.

    Two teenage girls, who were passengers in the car, were also injured, along with the taxi driver.

    The group had just left a party in Horsforth when it happened.

    Police still want to hear from people who were there as they continue to build up a picture of what happened.

    A road in Hull remains closed after a large building fire yesterday morning.

    The fire on Grey Street completely gutted the building which was storing furniture.

    Humberside Fire and Rescue say they expect the road to be blocked for 24 hours, and the council will need to pick up some of the surrounding debris from the fire.

    Structural engineers have inspected the site and investigations continue.

    A man has been injured in one of two separate shootings in Leeds yesterday.

    A house was damaged in the Woodhouse area yesterday afternoon and the man was injured two hours later in Harehills.

    Officers say the Woodhouse shooting happened at 15:40 in Devon Close.

    The one in Harehills took place near Pasture Road at about 17:55.

    Police say the Harehills shooting resulted in a male receiving non life-threatening injuries.

    Investigations are said to be at early stage.

    Police want anyone with information about either incident to contact them.

    A government inspection has found Humberside Police has failed to record some crimes properly, including serious offences like domestic violence and rape.

    HM Inspector of Constabulary Matt Parr said: “We estimate the force fails to record around 14,200 reported crimes each year.

    “The problem is particularly acute when we look at violent crimes, such as harassment and common assault."

    He said an audit had revealed almost one in five violent crimes reported in the police area had gone unrecorded - some 6,200 violent crimes a year.

    Mr Parr added: "I am aware Humberside Police has taken immediate action to address our concerns - it's redesigned its communications hub, upped crime recording oversight and improved its training provision.

    “These are all positive steps in the right direction."

    A Yorkshire MP is calling for an end to a legal loophole which means criminal background checks aren't required for tutors.

    York Central MP, Rachael Maskell, says she's taking action after a teenager living in her constituency said she had been groomed for abuse by a private tutor.

    The Labour MP says: "There is a real concern anybody could turn up as a tutor and enter somebody's home - the risks are enormous."

    Research by the Sutton Trust charity suggests the number of children in England and Wales who receive private tuition has doubled in a decade.

    It is estimated more than 350,000 secondary-aged school children have received private tuition in 2018, according to a survey commissioned by the the trust, up from about 160,000 in 2009.

    An historic railway station cafe is up for sale after its owner decided to retire.

    The Station Buffet in Bridlington is one of just two unaltered railway station buffets in Britain but owner John Sadler wants to retire.

    The cafe dates from 1912 and is within a listed building.

    Part of its upkeep is paid for by the Railway Heritage Trust.

    The Cawthorne Maize Maze is back this year, helped in part by the hot weather which has helped it grow to over six-feet tall.

    The puzzle, near Barnsley, has been made in the shape of a tractor, one used on the farm where the maize is grown.

    Sarah Williams, from the Maize Maze, says the tractor was bought by her husband Jim's grandfather to move coal in the Welsh valleys.

    It has since been restored.

    "We all had our first experience of driving on this tractor when we were teenagers. Five years ago it was sadly used to pull a trailer with Jim's coffin on when he died after losing his battle with cancer.

    "He would be thrilled to see it looking so beautiful."

    A sex worker in Leeds' 'legalised' red light zone was run over by a man in a dispute over payment.

    It happened at about 03:50 on Saturday on Ingram Road in Holbeck.

    The 35-year-old woman was found with injuries, including a broken leg.

    She is still being treated in hospital but her injuries aren't life threatening.

    Police say they'er looking for a man aged 35 to 40 with light brown to auburn hair and was driving a small silver car.

    The BBC's Caroline Brockelbank is one passenger affected by disruption caused between the Hull to Brough line.

    She has been told that the railway track is cracked at Hessle and they're testing a train on it to see if any trains can pass safely.

    At the moment it appears trains coming in from places like Manchester and Leeds are being terminated at Brough and turned back around.

    Northern Rail say affected passengers should listen to PA announcements on the platform for updates.
