    The family of legendary boxing trainer Brendan Ingle are launching an appeal for a permanent memorial to him in Sheffield.

    They're gathering in Wincobank this morning to start the Brendan Ingle memorial charity appeal.

    They're looking to raise £100,000 for the memorial to Brendan, whose funeral took place at Sheffield Cathedral last month.

    He produced four world champions from his gym at Wincobank.

  2. Businesses interested in Hull's House of Fraser storepublished at 08:05

    Businesses are already showing an interest in taking over the former House of Fraser department store building in Hull, according to the city council.

    Last month, House of Fraser announced it was closing some of its sites across the country.

    Hull City Council say they're also working with smaller shops, based in the store, to find them potential new sites across the city.

    North Yorkshire actress and radio presenter, Roxanne Pallett, has been airlifted to Hull Royal Infirmary following a high-speed crash.

    The former Emmerdale star was taking part in a stock car race with her Minster FM radio show co-host, Ben Fry, yesterday afternoon at the Hunmanby Raceway in North Yorkshire, when the incident occurred.

    She is reported to have sprained both of her wrists,suffered severe bruising and is awaiting results of a CT scan.

    Psychologists at Bradford University have found that two-fifths of us have a fictional first memory.

    Experts say these false early memories are based on fragments of early experiences.

    Current research suggests that memories cannot be formed before the age of about three-and-a-half.

    The team think people create false memories about being toddlers from fragments of information they've been told or photos they've seen.

    A developer working on a new housing estate near Scarborough has been criticised for naming it after one of the borough's wealthiest areas, according to the Local Democracy Reporter Service.

    The Linden Homes development in Eastfield has been named after the village of Cayton, four miles away.

    Councillors have accused the developers of wanting to "disassociate themselves" from the estate's actual location.

    Linden said it had given careful consideration to what the site was called.

    Hull has seen the biggest increase in deaths in England and Wales, according to a report by the Office of National Statistics.

    In England and Wales, between 2016 and 2017 the death rate increased by nearly 2%.

    In Hull, it increased by more than 7%.

    Hull also had the highest overall mortality rate in England and Wales, with 1,346 deaths per 100,000 people in 2017.

    The city replaced Blackpool as having the highest mortality rate.

    The statistics show York is the most active area in England, with nearly 70% of adults meeting the Government's exercise guideline., external

    Healthy life expectancy is above average at 66 for males and females in York.

    A police officer who put a parking ticket on this van for completely blocking a pavement in Ilkley was then verbally abused by the driver.

    The driver was given a fixed penalty notice for obstructing the path, but when they appeared then went on to argue the validity of the ticket and gave the officer a verbal dressing down.

    Police in Ilkley wrote on Twitter, external "This selfish driver thought it was ok to park fully blocking the footpath. Fixed penalty ticket was issued."

    A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after a shooting in Leeds on Monday evening.

    A 17-year-old was shot and seriously injured on Pasture Road in Harehills at about 18:00 on Monday, he is still in hospital and is also under arrest on suspicion of firearms offences.

    Armed police arrested him at a house in Halton in the early hours of this morning and he is still being interviewed by officers.

    Officers say they think the shooting is linked to an earlier incident when a shotgun was fired at a house in Devon Close in Woodhouse, no one was injured.

    Police say they're looking for three to five masked men who were in a blue Ford Ka, which was also involved in a third incident in Roundhay Grove where a masked man was seen with a shotgun.

    Police are trying to find a Bridlington man who has breached the terms of his licence.

    Isaac Thorne, 20, is wanted on prison recall after breaching the terms of his licence.

    He is known to live in and frequent the Havenfield Estate area of Bridlington.

    Enquiries to find him have proved unsuccessful and he is now being urged to hand himself in.

    It's emerged that a transgender prisoner has been charged with four sexual offences against inmates at a women's jail in West Yorkshire.

    Karen White, 51, is accused of four counts of sexual touching at New Hall Prison, Wakefield.

    The alleged offences took place between September and November last year.

    She appeared before magistrates earlier this month and is due to appear at Leeds Crown Court next month.

    Children who have been burning their school books are being blamed for setting fire to a patch of land in York.

    North Yorkshire Police say they're now going to the local school to try and identify the children involved.

    On Twitter North Yorkshire Police said "We have just assisted @NorthYorksFire, external at a fire on Bachelor Hill, believed to be started deliberate by youths burning school books"

    They added "parents do you know where your children are now?".

    The number of children putting their lives at risk by trespassing on train tracks in East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire has nearly doubled in the last four years.

    Last year, 32 young people were caught trespassing on lines in East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, up from 17 in 2014.

    Judges have delayed their decision in an appeal by far-right activist Tommy Robinson against his conviction and jailing for contempt of court.

    The Court of Appeal expects a judgement on the former English Defence League leader to be made by the end of July.

    Robinson, of Bedfordshire, was jailed in May after he admitted contempt of court by filming outside Leeds Crown Court during a trial.

    He appeared under his real name Stephen Yaxley Lennon.
