    Leeds Rhinos and England winger Ryan Hall has agreed a two-year deal with National Rugby League side Sydney Roosters ahead of the 2019 season.

    England's all-time leading try-scorer, 30, has won won six Grand Finals, scoring 231 tries and playing 327 times for Leeds since his debut in 2007.

    But earlier this week he revealed his intention to leave the club.

    Roosters recruitment boss Adam Hartigan described Hall as "a natural finisher blessed with size, speed and strength."

    Three Sheffield tree protestors have been told they won't face assault charges, following clashes between protestors and security staff earlier this year.

    Arrests were made and investigations began after the alleged incidents on Meersbrook Park Road on 22 January.

    The Crown Prosecution Service has now announced there's insufficient evidence for a conviction.

    The council, which is planting new trees after removing existing ones, insists the trees earmarked for felling are either "dangerous, dead, diseased, dying, damaging or discriminatory".

    However, many of the trees classed by the council as "damaging" or "discriminatory" are healthy specimens which campaigners say should be saved.

    Instead they say amendments should be made to surrounding pavements and roads.

    Police are concerned for the safety of 14-year-old Ellis Evans (pictured) who has been missing for several days.

    He's believed to be in the North Hull area and often goes by the name Birmingham because of his Midlands accent.

    He was last seen wearing a grey tracksuit top, green camouflage t shirt, khaki “gymking” joggers, black cap and blue trainers.

    One in five traders at Kirkgate Market in Leeds say they're behind with their rent, with one trader saying she borrows off her parents to pay bills.

    One trader, Michelle Buttery, says she lost so much trade during the last refurbishment that she was plunged into debt and had to borrow off her parents.

    "I ended up in thousands of pounds worth of debt, and now they're saying they're going to build a car park and put us through it all again.

    "I had a cracking business before they started all this work and now it's borrowing off Peter and Paul just to make ends meet."

    Traders are now calling on the council to talk to them or risk many traders going out of business.

    Leeds City Council have been contacted for comment.

    A former police officer has pleaded guilty to downloading "vile" images of children being sexually abused.

    David Griffiths, 69, was an officer for West Yorkshire Police before moving to a civilian role with the force.

    Griffiths, of Thornleigh Avenue, Wakefield, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to three counts of possessing indecent images and one charge of possession of an extreme pornographic image.

    He was sentenced to eight months in jail, suspended for 12 months.

    Bradford based supermarket chain Morrisons has introduced a weekly "quieter hour" for autistic shoppers who struggle with music and noise.

    Its 439 UK stores will dim lights, turn music off, avoid using the tannoy and turn check-out beeps down on Saturdays from 09:00 to 10:00.

    It is believed to be the first supermarket chain to roll out the scheme to all stores nationwide.

    The National Autistic Society says it is a "step in the right direction".

    Jody Worrell, who has two teenagers with autism, called the scheme a "great start" but said there was more to the condition than just dealing with the sensory aspect.

    The mum-of-three said: "My son is 16, he finds it incredibly difficult to go in to a shop. He said today it is too noisy and busy.

    "His issue is having to pay - he finds it very difficult to interact with people."

    A teenager from Mexborough who had a previous conviction for making a pipe bomb has been detained in a young offenders institution for terror crimes.

    Jack Coulson, 19 of Roman Gardens was sentenced today after pleading guilty at Leeds Crown Court on Monday.

    Counter terror officers examined Coulson’s mobile phone and found he’d downloaded information on how to obtain and mix explosives, how to manufacture pipe bombs and other explosive devices.

    They also found a wide range of extreme right wing material and propaganda and an interest in Nazism and White Jihad.

    Coulson was a former member of banned neo-Nazi group National Action.

    He was sentenced to four years eight months.

  10. Hull business 'losing' a third of trade after road closurespublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 19 July 2018

    A cafe on Wincomlee in Hull claims it's lost a third of its trade since road closures in the area began.

    The Environment Agency started work in the area in February as part of a scheme to improve flood defences on the River Hull.

    The scheme will offer improved flood protection to 60,000 properties.

    A Yorkshire MP is facing calls to resign if he fails to explain how voting pacts were broken during this week's knife-edge Commons votes on Brexit.

    Julian Smith, the Conservative member for Skipton and Ripon, is also the Government's Chief Whip.

    The Conservative Party chairman, Brandon Lewis, has apologised after voting when he shouldn't have, as he was "paired" with the Liberal Democrats Deputy Leader Jo Swinson, who's on maternity leave.

    Pairing is a parliamentary convention by which pairs of MPs on different sides of the Commons agree not to vote, so an absence, such as maternity leave, does not count against a member.

    The Liberal Democrats Chief Whip Alistair Carmichael told the Commons "an explanation was needed."

    Shadow Equalities Secretary Dawn Butler said: "Surely the Chief Whip and Conservative Party chair should resign."

    During Prime Minister's questions, Mrs May told MPs: "The breaking of the pair was done in error.

    "It wasn't good enough and will not be repeated."

    A protected area of grassland in Harrogate known as The Stray is set to be used to host one of the world's biggest cycle races, in what's likely to be the last ever major event held on it.

    The council has agreed to apply to the government to suspend, for the final time, what's known as the Stray Act.

    It restricts the type, number and size of events which can be held on the land.

    Following the success of the Tour de Yorkshire, eight days of racing will take place across Yorkshire next year, as it hosts the UCI Road World Championships.

    Harrogate has been named as the main competition town and finish location for each race.

    The report, commissioned by the company tasked by the government with delivering the project, also says the train will be as reliable as Japan's high-speed rail network.

    The £56bn scheme has faced many calls to be scrapped and the money spent on existing services.

    The 26-year-old is also known as Ronnie, Thames Valley Police said.

    A Conservative MP in West Yorkshire has submitted a letter of no confidence in Theresa May's leadership.

    Philip Davies, MP for Shipley, says that he has "lost trust" in her ability to deliver Brexit.

    In a letter to voters in his Shipley constituency, obtained by the Yorkshire Post, external, Mr Davies said that Mrs May's Chequers plan for Brexit was "unacceptable".

    Mrs May could face a confidence vote if the chairman of the backbench 1922 Committee, Sir Graham Brady, receives letters from 48 Tory MPs.

    It is not known how many he has so far received.
