'Courageous' officer praised for dog attack responsepublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 14 August 2018
A police officer who tried to stop a dog attacking and fatally injuring a man in Huddersfield has been described as "courageous and resourceful".
The officer arrived eight minutes after police were called on 15 August last year as 52-year-old David Ellam was being attacked by a dog and used a fire extinguisher to ward the animal off.
He was followed by another officer who then tried to find the dog to stop it from attacking others, as Mr Ellam was treated by paramedics.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has to investigate all incidences where someone dies when the police have been in contact with them.
Quote MessageThe quick thinking of the officers who arrived to help Mr Ellam cannot be underestimated."
