People reported seeing the light around Staincliffe, Mirfield and the south Leeds areas with some speculating that it has something to do with a circus, a festival or - you guessed it - aliens.

Some have speculated that the lights may have come from railway engineering works, so we called Network Rail.

But they confirmed they were not working in the area last night, leaving us at a loss as to what may have caused the mysterious purple lights above West Yorkshire's skies.

We even called West Yorkshire Police to see if they could illuminate this strange sighting - but nothing.

If you're in Sheffield and think your drinking water tastes a little bit different to what you're used to at the moment, you're right.

The city's tapwater isn't just coming from the usual places as Yorkshire Water tries to keep water levels up in its reservoirs across the region.

The firm say it's currently getting Sheffield's drinking water from rivers and underground boreholes and reservoirs from across Yorkshire.

That may mean some of the water is "harder" and tastes different to usual, Yorkshire Water says.

Water from the River Ouse and River Derwent is currently helping top-up Sheffield's supply.

Residents in York, Wakefield, Barnsley, Rotherham and Hull already have water supplied this way.

Yorkshire Water says it doesn't know when it will switch back supply to the usual sources.
