Read MoreSix Sheffield tree protesters were acting peacefully before they were arrested, a solicitor representing them has said after a police watchdog concluded the decision to arrest them was flawed.
Calvin Payne, Jeremy Peace, Kate Billington, Margaret Mark, Paul Brookes and one other person were arrested under the Trade Union and Labour Relations Act between November 2016 and February 2017.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has said it found there were "no grounds" to arrest them on the grounds of preventing harm or injury, though it did find there was "reasonable suspicion that an offence had been committed".
Iftikhar Manzoor, from Howells Solicitors, says the decision to complain to the IOPC was the right thing to do.
"My clients were lawfully exercising their rights to protest against the tree-felling programme and passionately believe they were acting peacefully at all times," says Mr Manzoor.
"They were rightly concerned about the actions of some South Yorkshire Police officers in arresting and detaining them, which the IOPC decision vindicates."

The South Yorkshire Police force has defended its officers' decision to arrest six Sheffield tree protesters after the police watchdog said there were "no grounds" for their arrests to prevent harm and injury.
Three men, two women, and one unknown person were arrested between November 2016 and February 2017 at tree-felling sites in the city.
However, the Independent Office for Police Conduct has said it found there weren't grounds to arrest the six on the grounds of preventing harm or injury.
In a statement, the South Yorkshire force says no officers were found to have a case to answer for misconduct, but it shows how scrutinised their officers are.
"These findings underline the complexity our officers face in dealing with competing interests, where they often have only a split-second to make decisions," the statement says.
"They are then examined at length for weeks or months, not just in terms of their legality but also around wider issues of context."

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has now found there weren't grounds to arrest the six to prevent harm or injury between November 2016 and February 2017.
In a statement, the IOPC says it'll recommend "management action" for the three police officers who made the arrests.
"Though we found there was reasonable suspicion that an offence had been committed, the protesters were arrested for the prevention of harm and injury," according to the IOPC.
"There were no grounds for this as there was no risk of injury," it adds.
