Earlier this year, Scarborough Borough Council was criticised after more than 40 local primary school children weren't allowed to use the toilets in North Bay, as the teachers didn't have the required 40p charge needed for each child.

The council's now decided local school parties will be given a daily code when new, smart access panels are fitted to the borough's toilets.

Campaigners want to turn Queensbury Tunnel into a cycleway, but its owners say unless someone comes forward to take it on it will be filled in and closed forever.

The tunnel, which closed as a railway route 60 years ago, runs 1.4 miles between Bradford and Halifax and is currently partially flooded and collapsed.

Current owners Highways England says the tunnel "represents the highest risk to public safety" of its 3,200 former railway structures.

But members of the Queensbury Tunnel Society say they want to turn it into a cycleway and put a heritage asset back into public use.

Bradford City Council has looked into the feasibility of turning it into a cycleway, but Highways England says there a just a few months until it's filled and sealed at a cost of £3m.
