Det Sgt Rob Cobley says: "Although it is easily done and I don't want to criticise people for being trustworthy, I can't stress enough how important it is not to give out personal details over the phone."

Det Sgt Cobley said of the 15 incidents, 13 had been reported in Rotherham and two in Sheffield - and on four occasions victims had gone to their banks to withdraw money.

Staff at the radiotherapy department at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham are asking people to donate bottles of squash to encourage patients to drink plenty of water before their treatment.

They say some people having treatment for prostate cancer struggle to drink the 800ml of water needed to fill their bladder beforehand, and squash can help make it easier.

    Quote Message

At the moment we're relying on staff to buy the juice and bring it in, which is lovely and we all don't mind doing it, but if we had any donations from anyone, that would be amazing."

  8. Future of South Yorkshire's PCSOs to be scrutinisedpublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

Police Community Support Officers have no powers of arrest, but since their introduction in 2002 they quickly proved their worth in dealing with low-level neighbourhood problems.

Increasingly tight budgets and reduced numbers of regular police officers have forced chief constables to re-assess the function PCSOs play within their forces, with some scrapping the service.

In South Yorkshire, a recruitment freeze has been introduced to allow time to assess what role the 225 PCSOs might hold within the force in future.

The county's Police and Crime Commissioner Doctor Alan Billings says the Chief Constable is looking at what PCSOs do.

"When PCSOs were first introduced, money was not quite so tight and there were more bodies on the ground," he says.

"What they do is spend more time on the ground, talking to people."

  17. 'A TV in a room' - Scarborough cinema plans criticisedpublished at 09:00 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

Revised plans for a long-awaited multiplex cinema in Scarborough have been likened to a "television in a room".

    PlansImage source, Benchmark Leisure

Benchmark Leisure has delayed the opening of its five-screen complex in the town's North Bay for the third time, blaming the difficulties in securing restaurants to be part of the scheme.

The project is now not expected to be completed until 2020, the developer has confirmed.

The complex, on the site of the former Atlantis water park, which will also include more than 70 flats, was due to be open later this year,.

That was then pushed back until July 2019 before the announcement of the fresh delay.

Earlier this year, the developer announced it had dropped the number of cinema screens from seven to five or six - and the number of restaurants from eight to five.

Speaking about the new delays and plan changes, Labour councillor Carl Maw said: "If it keeps being changed at this rate, we will end up with a 42-inch television screen in a room."
