    More teachers are seeking help for stress, according to a charity supporting education staff.

    The figures come from the Education Support Partnership, which provides counselling to teachers over the telephone.

    It said it had seen a 35% increase in calls in the past 12 months, with many suffering workload pressures and anxiety.

    This knife has been confiscated from a man in Rotherham after he ran away from police officers.

    The man ran from officers for "no reason" when he saw them yesterday.

    When they caught up with him, they discovered the knife.

    Describing it as a "nasty little weapon", the man was then arrested.

    South Yorkshire Police say their enquiries are ongoing.

    After years of delays, work on a £11.5m footbridge over the A63, one of Hull's busiest roads, is due to start next month.

    The structure at Castle Street was originally planned to be open in time for Hull hosting the UK City of Culture arts festival in 2017.

    The bridge will link the marina with the southern end of Princes Dock.

    Construction work is due to begin on Princes Quay Bridge and Roger Millward Way roundabout in October.

    A new head coach for Bradford City is expected to be named later after Michael Collins was sacked from the job on Monday, just six games into the new season.

    The 32-year-old, who was the youngest boss in English professional football, was in his first senior post having been promoted from his role as the club's under-18s manager in June.

    Bradford have lost four of their past five league matches and were knocked out of the Carabao Cup on penalties by EFL newcomers Macclesfield.

    Collins' sacking was "based on an unsatisfactory start to the season and performances not being good enough," chairman Edin Rahic said in a statement on the club website, external.

    His successor will be the fourth man to take full-time charge at Valley Parade this year.

    A man's been left with stab wounds after being attacked by five men riding on a motorbike and two quad bikes in the Gleadless area of Sheffield.

    It happened at 17:30 on Sunday when the man was approached on Spring Close View.

    The man was hit by one of the bikes and subsequently attacked by the group, according to officers.

    Police have no description of the men as their faces were covered with helmets or balaclavas.

    They say the motorbike was blue and one of the quad bikes had a green bar across the front.

    The victim suffered a number of stab wounds to his legs and has now been discharged from hospital.

    Officers are asking witnesses to contact them.

    Police say they're growing "increasingly concerned" for a man who's been missing from North Deighton, near Harrogate, since yesterday morning.

    Neil Smith, 55, was last at about 11:00 on Monday in the Leeds Road area of Dewsbury.

    He is 6ft tall, of large build, with a bald head. He was last seen wearing shorts and a t-shIrt.

    It's thought he may have travelled to the Penrith area in a black BMW 1 Series with the registration number PN12 CRU.

    Anyone with information regarding Mr Smith's whereabouts is asked to contact the police.

    It's the second time in a week that First Bus' mobile phone app has had issues.

    Last week people were unable to buy tickets with their phones.

    Today the company said there was another issue with the app but were not specific about the problem, which affects users across the region.

    Doncaster Council will spend over £250,000 on improving and repairing several pavements across the town centre, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    As part of the refurbishment, paving will be levelled out where needed, any broken slabs replaced and re-pointing work carried out.

    Works to improve St Sepulchre Gate will be programmed in at a later date.

    Highways bosses said the refurbished surfaces will be of particular benefit to mobility users, the physically and visually impaired.

    The project is hoped to be complete by 2021.

    A volunteer at Bempton Cliffs in East Yorkshire has come up with an innovative solution, after finding that many people struggled to close one eye to look through a telescope.

    Ian Crossley has been helping out at the RSPB nature reserve, but says some people, especially children, close the wrong eye or both eyes when trying to look through the lens.

    As a solution he thought about creating something like a pirate eye-patch with a pair of glasses.

    He took the lens out of one side and painted the other with black nail varnish and he says they've have proved a hit with aspiring birdwatchers.

    Ian said: "By wearing the spectacles you don’t need to decide which eye to close or even close one at all. You just look through the lens with the eye that isn’t blacked out’.

    Jeremy Corbyn has been in Leeds and Hull today as he made his way across the country by train, pledging to improve services for northern commuters.

    The Labour leader started his day at Liverpool Lime Street before travelling to Manchester, Leeds and Hull, as Labour hit out at what it dubbed "Tory rail mayhem".

    Mr Corbyn travelled the proposed route of Crossrail for the North to highlight Labour's plans for rolling re-nationalisation of the railways.

    The leader of the opposition also voiced his support for keeping guards on trains, as proposals for driver-only trains have led to industrial disputes.

    A Department for Transport spokesman said: "We are spending over £13bn through to 2020 to transform transport across the North - the biggest investment any government in history has ever made."

    Luke Bolton from Altrincham could have got on a bus to Leeds yesterday afternoon, according to police.

    Officers say the 48-year-old may need urgent medical attention as he hasn't taken his medication - which he needs everyday - with him.

    He was last seen wearing grey tracksuit bottoms, blue trainers, and a big, black parka jacket with a fur-lined hood.

    Rocks painted with inspirational messages and designs are "spreading happiness" to people in Sheffield, according to the community group behind the idea.

    People are buying rocks, painting them and then hiding them across parks in the city which passers-by then have the chance to find, take a photo of and then re-hide.

    Helen Lloyd, who helps run Rock Sheffield, joined the national craze after seeing Facebook posts from elsewhere in Britain.

    She says: "I think we've got over 200 rocks. It's spreading a little bit of happiness with the thrill of the find.

    "It doesn't matter if it's children or adults. We're all as bad as each other," she adds.

    Police are hunting a cyclist who hit a pedestrian in Leeds and rode off, leaving a man with a serious head injury.

    It happened on Elland Road just before 20:00 on Friday outside Leeds United's ground.

    The 36-year-old man was hit by the cyclist and was left with a serious head injury and is in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

    The incident closed the road for a while, the cyclist rode off and left the scene leaving the man.

  20. Moon installation attracts thousands to Hull Minsterpublished at 16:18 British Summer Time 3 September 2018

    It's estimated that more than 35,000 people went to see a giant sculpture of the Moon at Hull Minster this weekend.

    The installation, called The Museum of the Moon, was on show as part of the Freedom Festival.

    The seven metre-wide (23ft) model is made up of detailed photos of the lunar surface from NASA.
