The town's rate for tooth removal for five to nine-year-olds is five times higher than the national average, figures show.

Doctor Rupert Suckling, director of public health at Doncaster Council, says the statistics equate to 1,100 hospital procedures - the highest in South Yorkshire.

On average, latest figures show Doncaster's five-year-olds have four teeth which are decayed.

Dr Suckling said these rates were down in part to low levels of breastfeeding and children consuming sugary drinks.

  8. Farmers' fears over closure of Humber energy plantpublished at 07:12 British Summer Time 7 September 2018

There are concerns about the economic effects of the closure of a green energy plant located on the Humber.

    Vivergo

Vivergo makes biofuel from wheat at its £350m facility in Saltend, East Yorkshire, and buys up to 50% of some local farmers' crops.

But it was announced yesterday that the plant is to close because of a delay in new government regulations which would increase the amount of bio-ethanol in petrol.

The closure will put about 150 jobs at risk.

The government says it's committed to supporting the biofuels industry and to reducing carbon emissions from transport to tackle climate change.
