    The first rise in taxi fares in half a decade is being considered by councillors in Scarborough.

    The application to the borough council has come from the Scarborough and District Taxi Association.

    The proposed increases range from eight to 26%, depending on the length of the journey and when it's taken.

    A West Yorkshire MP says he's worried Channel 4 won't set-up its second HQ in the county because the area doesn't have an elected mayor.

    The company wants to move 300 of its 800 staff out of London to a national headquarters and two "creative hubs".

    Leeds is on the shortlist for the HQ along with Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool, all of which have been given extra powers by the government through mayors.

    The Culture Secretary has told Huddersfield's Barry Sheerman Channel 4 will make the final decision.

    A 65-year-old North Yorkshire woman has appeared at Leeds Crown Court charged with murdering her partner.

    Dianne Williamson (pictured), 70, died at a house in Gristhorpe, near Filey, on Sunday evening.

    Sheila Lockridge, from Lodge Gardens in Gristhorpe, has been remanded in custody.

    She's due to appear again at the same court on 26 September.

    Detectives say they want people to come forward with any information that could help their investigation.

    Shopkeepers in York are urging the government to abolish business rates in a bid to stop more shops going out of business in the city.

    Traders say the current business rates system is outdated because online companies don't have to pay an equivalent tax.

    As the number of empty shops in streets like Coney Street grow (pictured above, yesterday), the Liberal Democrats say they want a new system meaning retailers would see a 5% cut in the amount they pay.

    Business rates are set by central government and are based on the estimated open market rental value of a business.

    Last month, 4,000 residents living on the Great Thornton estate received polling cards asking them whether the area should have its own neighbourhood plan.

    The Goodwin Trust, which is based on the estate, says the plan would give local residents a legal say on how the area's developed in the future.

    But many have told the BBC they're still in the dark about the proposals.

    Sheffield Wednesday's Fernando Forestieri has been banned for three matches and fined £25,000 after admitting an FA charge of violent conduct following an Owls pre-season friendly.

    The forward was seen tussling with a Mansfield Town player during the game on Tuesday 24 July.

    Both clubs have also been fined, along with Mansfield's Jacob Mellis.

    A road in the West Yorkshire village of Mytholmroyd is still closed after a burst water main caused damage, clogging up nearby country roads.

    Water poured out of the ground yesterday following the leak leaving Calder High School, a nearby library and a number of businesses to stay closed as a result.

    Yorkshire Water says its technicians are "working as fast as they can" to resolve the leak, but says the road could be closed until the weekend.

    Two children, who caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to a Barnsley monument, have been referred to a youth offending team, police say.

    The 12-year-olds were seen on CCTV throwing stones at the Monk Bretton monument, that was installed to commemorate the local glass industry.

    The boys both admitted causing the damage when interviewed by South Yorkshire Police.

    Two new bollards which look like school children have been put in place in Sheffield.

    The child-shaped posts have been called "creepy" by some.

    However, the idea is that motorists will see the bollards and slow down outside schools.

    A driver near Bradford had a lucky escape last night after his car caught fire.

    The man managed to get out before the fire really took hold, police say.

    It happened on the northbound side of the M606 in Bradford, with the driver reportedly having to stop quickly to escape the flames.

    Emergency crews were on the scene quickly and managed to save the car from completely burning out, according to West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

    New trains which have been worked on by apprentices in Doncaster are almost ready to roll off the production line.

    The Hitachi Class 800 trains are being worked on by four apprentices at its £80m factory in South Yorkshire.

    The Azuma trains will be used by London North Eastern Railway and Great Western Railway.

    Luxury goods maker Burberry, which has its manufacturing base in West Yorkshire, says it will end its practice of burning unsold goods.

    A report in July revealed the company destroyed products worth more than £28m last year to protect its brand.

    The company has also announced an end to using real fur.

    Burberry currently uses rabbit, fox, mink and Asiatic racoon fur in its collections, but will stop using them in the future, it has confirmed.

    The firm said it already reused, repaired, donated or recycled unsold products, but it would continue to increase these efforts.
