Clr John Booker said: "Many people in this chamber like to watch good football. Was it an oversight or deliberate decision not to fly the St George flag over the town hall during the World Cup when England was doing so well?"

Council leader Julie Dore said there was a "flag protocol" which dictated when they could be flown.

She said: "On certain occasions we do consider flying a particular flag."

"The England women's cricket team won the Cricket World Cup in 2017 and the England women's rugby team were runners up in the Women's Rugby World Cup but I can't remember you showing any interest in these events."

Vivergo Fuels, which has sites in Hessle and Saltend, have announced more than 100 jobs are at risk as they plan to cease production on 30 September.

The company says the closure is due to a "continued difficult trading environment" as well as government delays in introducing a fuel called E10 which has 10% bioethanol and, according to Vivergo Fuels, results in lower emissions.

Last year the company stopped production for the same reason.

The Department for Transport say they've introduced changes which will mean the use of renewable fuels will almost double by 2020, and they're "consulting on how they can introduce E10 fuel to UK forecourts".

    Quote Message

I am extremely disappointed at having to make this difficult choice...But sadly, the government’s lack of pace over the past decade to introduce E10 has further undermined our ability to operate. My employees are my number one concern at this time and we have entered into consultation with them.”
