    A man who died in a road collision on Sunday in Wakefield has been named as 21-year-old Ali Ahmed.

    Mr Ahmed, from Thornhill Lees, was the front seat passenger in a car when it collided with a park car on Batley Road.

    The force of the collision then caused the car to cross to the opposite side of the road and collide with an oncoming tractor before hitting a wall.

    The driver of the vehicle, a 27-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital.

    Two nurses at Hull Royal Infirmary's emergency department are leading a campaign to make it an easier environment for people with dementia and their families.

    Relatives of dementia patients will be asked questions about what their loved ones like and the equipment they need. They'll also be able to stay while they're being treated

    The trust says Lisa Branston and Beca Trewhitt (pictured above) have made changes that "will make a massive difference".

    The first signs of a medieval castle buried under Sheffield city centre have been revealed.

    Under the former Castlegate market, the castle is where Mary Queen of Scots was once imprisoned, before being destroyed in 1648.

    The finds seem to be a brick wall that were uncovered by a team from Wessex Archaeology.

    All of Rotherham's council run care homes could close under money saving proposals, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    The authority needs to close huge gaps in finances with senior officers insisting no decisions have been made yet.

    Several council departments are predicting massive overspends by the end of the financial year, including children and young people's services.

    Another shortfall of more than £6m is predicted in adult care and housing, with one option being to "decommission" the council's five care homes.

    The council says it's committed to introducing a new "intermediate care" package should that happen.

    There's due to be a meeting on Monday.

    A South Yorkshire school which plans to make all nine of its dinner ladies redundant says "it's not been an easy proposal to put forward".

    Today is the first of six days of strike action planned by support staff at Ladywood Primary School in Grimethorpe.

    Headteacher Clare Grainger says in a statement on their website that the school is facing a significant budget shortfall.

    "We've reached the point where we are unable to continue to operate within our financial budget and as a consequence, we've had to review our staffing structure."

    Hospitals in northern Lincolnshire will remain in special measures, after failing to make the necessary improvements.

    A Care Quality Commission report on Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Goole hospitals raised serious concerns about staffing levels and the rate of change at the trust which runs them.

    The Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Trust says the report shows that progress is being made.

    A coroner has ruled the death of a student from Doncaster at her Sheffield Hallam University halls of residence was an accident.

    Abigail Hall, 18, died four days after starting university in 2015.

    Her parents had taken her to an NHS walk-in clinic the day before, after she had been ill for several days.

    She was found by flatmates unresponsive in her bathroom the following evening and despite CPR, she was pronounced dead.

    Police are appealing for mobile phone footage of the attacks on two banks in Hull yesterday lunchtime.

    Officers responded to reports of a man carrying "a bladed weapon and a container with liquid thought to be petrol" at about 13:00.

    The man poured petrol on the floor of one of the banks which he set alight.

    Officers and fire crews responded quickly and the man was arrested at Hull Paragon station.

    Two people were injured and and the two banks remain closed following the incident.

    An 85-year-old woman died after being hit by a truck on Monday morning in Otley.

    Bridget Curzon, from Otley, was pronounced dead following the collision on Bridge Street.

    Sgt Fiona Hoodless said: “This is a really tragic incident and we are doing everything we can to continue to support Bridget’s husband, who was with her at the time."

    The driver of the truck, a 55-year-old man, stopped at the scene and has been spoken to by officers.

    The 55-year-old Hull man was last seen when he left work at 16:30 on Monday.

    He last contacted his partner by text on Tuesday morning, according to police.

    Det Insp John Symes said: “We’re growing concerned for Nigel’s well-being, after he failed to turn up for work as normal on Tuesday.

    “It’s really out of character for Nigel, who has a very set daily routine, so we’re really keen to speak to anyone who may have seen him so that we can make sure that he’s safe.”

    A Bradford MP is seeking assurances from the recently elected Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, that justice will be done following the murder of Samia Shahid, one of her constituents.

    Naz Shah wants Mr Khan to take a personal responsibility for helping her case.

    Samia Shahid, 28, died while visiting relatives in Pakistan in July 2016.

    Her former husband has been accused of her murder, but has now been released on bail.

    Her husband Syed Mukhtar Kazam claims his wife was killed because her family disapproved of their marriage.

    A 71-year-old woman has been assaulted in York in an unprovoked attack, according to police.

    It happened outside a Co-op store on Beckfield Lane in the Acomb area of the city yesterday evening.

    A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent - he currently remains in police custody.

    The victim was taken to hospital where she received treatment for her injuries and currently remains.

    Extra patrols by police officers are being conducted in the area to reassure the local community.

    People living near a managed red light zone in Leeds say they're not getting any answers over its future.

    Members of the community in Holbeck angrily confronted councillors at a meeting last night.

    They are demanding an end to the area, where sex workers can operate without being prosecuted.

    They say prostitutes are picking up and taking their clients into surrounding residential streets and the area has been plagued by anti-social behaviour since the zone was set up.

    Some residents say they intend to protest every two weeks until the sex trade is moved.

    Leeds City Council insists the zone is under constant review.

    A massive storage tank that will protect 27 homes in Goole from flooding has reached a milestone with its lid lifted into place.

    The £6m project will protect homes in the Attlee Drive area of the town and will be capable of holding over 2.5 million litres of storm water in wet weather, equivalent to the capacity of an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

    Construction began 15 months ago and is due to be completed in December this year.

    A 24-year-old man has been arrested after a man, 46, was stabbed at a pub in Adel, Leeds last night.

    The incident happened at the Lawnswood Arms on Otley Road.

    The men men involved were part of an extended family group, police say.

    A 42-year-old man also received a cut to his arm when he intervened - both men have since been released from hospital.

    An area near to the pub has been cordoned off today.

    A 24-year-old man has been arrested following a robbery and a stabbing in Sheffield this morning.

    Police were called to Spital Hill, Burngreave at 7.20am after a taxi driver reported being a victim of a robbery.

    An hour later, police received a call from a man on Gower Street who had just been stabbed.

    The 38-year-old man was taken to hospital to be treated for a slash wound to his chest.

    A man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and wounding and is now in custody.
