A Freedom of Information request shows local authority bosses paid out for crashes, injuries on uneven footpaths and flooding due to blocked drains in the last five years.

The majority of the compensation payouts are for personal injury claims against the council due to local authority vehicles hitting cars.

A sum of £83,600 was the biggest single claim after a council vehicle was involved in a crash during 2013-2014.

Council bosses also paid £20,850 in compensation in two separate claims after residents suffered an injury due to a "footpath defect".

But figures show the council is paying out less and less each year, with compensation claims falling from £814,000 during 2013-2014 to £141,000 in 2017-2018.

Debbie Hogg, director of corporate resources at Doncaster Council, said claims are fully investigated and the council only pays out when it needs to.

"Compensation claims made against Doncaster Council as a result of personal injury, property damage or financial losses are fully investigated and each claim is judged on its own merits," she said.

People said it had really given them more confidence, it had been great to meet their peers and other people with visual impairments, especially from other cities in the region as well. 14. Police warning after teacher jailed for child sex imagespublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 11 September 2018

Police in North Yorkshire have issued a warning about protecting children online after a teacher from Thirsk was jailed for 12 years for manipulating people around the world to sexually abuse children.

Richard ClarkImage source, North Yorkshire Police

Richard Clark, 29, of Topcliffe Road in Thirsk, was branded a "malign puppet master" by a judge at York Crown Court for convincing web-users to send images and recordings of their own relatives between April 2016 and April this year.

In one instance, the person being photographed was so young a nappy could be seen.

Clark pleaded guilty to 26 charges but a further 54 offences were taken into consideration. He will serve a further eight years on licence.

Det Ch Insp Jim Glass, the senior investigating officer in the case, said: "Clark abused his position of trust as a teacher, committing offences against pupils at the school he taught at, as well as instigating offences against children by use of the internet to hide his true identity."

He added this warning: "I would like to remind parents and carers of the need to ensure children are safe online.

"Please talk to them about the dangers and the importance of only talking to those they know are genuine, and to not do anything online to threaten their safety, specifically not to send sexual images of themselves."

The transport system, which currently only runs across Sheffield, expires in 2024 with hopes to extend the service to other parts of South Yorkshire through the tram-train system.

A tram-train trial is already being finalised to run from Sheffield into Rotherham, with a new station at Parkgate and a new service from Rotherham railway station.

Reports seen by council leaders in South Yorkshire report the estimate renewal costs is to be "in excess of £200m".

Documents also show the renewal requires a "commitment to a local contribution" of about 20%.

Any renewal should come from fares and central grants and not from taxpayers, according to the Mayor.
