    Leeds' Nile Wilson will return to the Great Britain gymnastics squad for next month's World Championships in Doha, it has been announced.

    The 22-year-old won three gold medals at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games earlier this year, but missed the European Championships in Glasgow with a neck injury.

    He's been named as part of a five-strong squad which will have the added incentive of knowing a medal in the team event will automatically secure qualification for the Tokyo Olympics.

    An 84-year-old man has died in North Yorkshire after his car collided with a Tesco delivery van.

    It happened on Friday on the A65, near Ingleton.

    The man from Guiseley, who was driving a blue Ford Fiesta heading towards Settle, was airlifted to Preston Royal Infirmary, but died a short time later.

    The 62-year-old van driver escaped with slight injuries.

    The road was closed for several hours while emergency services worked at the scene.

    Anyone who saw what happened is being urged to call the police.

    Leeds city centre is facing "critical and complex issues" over homelessness, begging and rough sleeping, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    A report from Leeds City Council officers into so-called "street users" says ambulances were called 183 times in three months to drug and alcohol-related incidents and incidents connected to homelessness in the city centre.

    Six rough sleepers in the city centre are known to have died in the past 18 months and there are now thought to be at least 200 street users in the city centre.

    The report recommends the council should set up a street support team, which it's hoped will cut the number of rough sleepers, protect people in need and tackle issues such as begging.

    A female Derby County fan needed hospital treatment after she was hit with a seat at the match in Rotherham at the weekend.

    Derby were playing Rotherham United at New York Stadium on Saturday. The seat was thrown from the stand where Derby fans were based.

    PC Roger Brown, from Derbyshire Police, has called the behaviour of a minority of Derby fans at the game "unacceptable".

    He said: "We started our enquiries during the match and we are working hard to pinpoint those fans responsible."

    A national charity based in Sheffield is on the lookout for more dogs to help people who may need a companion to detect seizures or to help young children with autism.

    Support Dogs takes animals from rescue centres and trains them as assistance dogs which can transform people's lives.

    Police want to speak to two men (pictured) after a man was hit on the head with a brick following an argument.

    It happened in June in Cherry Row, in the Mabgate area of Leeds.

    A 42-year-old man was left with head injuries and required surgery after he was hit with a brick in nearby Mushroom Street.

    The group stayed at the Victoria Hotel on the weekend of Saturday 11 August.

    Four men have been charged with vehicle-taking offences after a woman died in a crash with a lorry which went on to smash into the side of a house in Brierley, near Barnsley.

    Jacqueline Wileman, 58, died in a collision with the HGV on Friday, which was being followed by police.

    David Mellor, 48, and Alan Mawhinney, 53, both faces charges of aggravated vehicle taking and failure to provide a sample.

    Karn Hill, 23, and Wayne Carroll, 29, face a single charge each of aggravated vehicle taking, South Yorkshire Police said.

    They are due to appear before Sheffield Magistrates' Court later today.

    Police are warning people to be aware of the dangers bogus callers pose after a 92-year-old Bradford man had cash stolen by a conman who was posing as a council worker.

    The man was at home last Friday and answered the door to a man who claimed to be a council worker.

    However, the man was pushed aside by the bogus official who then took money from him and left.

    West Yorkshire Police say the 92-year-old suffered a minor arm injury and has been left shaken.

    The yellow be aware warning says the remnants of Storm Helene, heading across the Atlantic towards the UK, will bring a spell of strong winds to the region, with gusts of up to 50mph.

    The Met Office said there is the possibility of "large branches or trees falling in a few places."

    It added there could also be some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport.

    The warning is in force from 21:00 tonight until 18:00 tomorrow evening.

    About 500 new jobs could be created in West Yorkshire after Lidl UK announced plans for a new warehouse in the county.

    The German-owned chain says it has bought a 38-acre site in Gildersome, near Leeds, to be used as a regional distribution centre.

    It's Lidl's 17th such site in the country and is set to be about 60,000 sq m in size.

    The West Yorkshire site will follow the construction of new warehouses in Doncaster, Bolton, Peterborough and Luton as Lidl ramps up expansion.

    Fire crews are expected to be at the scene of a recycling site blaze for the rest of the day after about 1,500 tonnes of waste caught fire on Saturday night, it's been confirmed.

    Smoke from the fire could be seen from miles around Sheffield as it continued over the weekend at Fletcher Plant Ltd in Darnall.

    Up to 40 firefighters dealt with the fire at its height.

    Water has been pumped from a nearby canal to dampen down the area.

    A new way to recover tonnes of plastic which are buried in landfill sites has been developed and could be tested in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

    It's estimated there are currently about 400 million tonnes of plastic buried in landfill in the UK.

    But now scientists have discovered a way to turn it into what they say is a new greener fuel.

    In Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, 136 sites have been identified which could be "mined" to recover it.

    But environmentalists say people still need to reduce the amount of plastic they use and throw away without recycling.

    Hundreds of swimmers have signed a petition against plans to ban parking on one of Sheffield's busiest roads, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    Sheffield City Council proposes to put double yellow lines along the whole of Clarkehouse Road, saying it will increase safety for cyclists.

    But it will also mean the loss of 86 parking spaces, which local services say will be bad for business.

    Staff at King Edwards Swimming Pool in Broomhill say the plans will affect their customers hugely, and say they were not consulted over the move.

    They council said it had consulted 144 residents along the road about the proposals and received 111 responses, 101 of which were positive.

    Members of a swimming club at the King Edwards centre have started a petition which has already received more than 370 signatures in 10 days, and is "moving up rapidly", according to those behind the petition.

    A lorry driver is lucky to be alive after a sandbag thrown from a bridge over the M62 near Leeds smashed through his windscreen.

    Police have released these pictures of the shattered HGV windscreen.

    The sandbag was thrown from the Thorpe Lane bridge at Tingley.

    The lorry was travelling on the M62 eastbound when the sandbag crashed through the windscreen and into the cab.

    The driver managed to safely move his vehicle over to the hard shoulder and suffered minor injuries, according to police.

    In a tweet, officers from West Yorkshire's Road Policing Unit, external say the act could have "resulted in a fatality."

    A South Yorkshire charity helping people recover from alcohol dependence says it has had to adapt to keep its doors open.

    Sheffield Alcohol Support Service (SASS) runs groups and one-to-one guidance for people battling alcoholism.

    It's recently had to merge with another charity, Project 6, in West Yorkshire to try and save money.

    Vicki Beere, chief executive of Project 6, says it's a challenging time for charities.

    "We started to work with SASS about three years ago and we realised we had a lot in common.

    "We started to realise we had a lot of alignment and we needed to be sharing out ideas and creativity to make sure our services will stay there."

    Earlier this year, the BBC revealed £162m had been slashed from drug and alcohol services since 2013.
