    A sex offender has been given a nationwide ban from visiting bus stops and shops during the school run after breaching a court order.

    Kevin Shutt, 69, was ordered to stay away from the locations after repeatedly flouting the terms of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

    Bradford Crown Court heard Shutt, from Halifax, breached the order five times by approaching children in the street.

    Shutt, who admitted the offences, was jailed for two years and four months.

  2. Quadru-plod? Police dog sniffs out stolen quad bike suspectpublished at 16:59 British Summer Time 21 September 2018

    A suspected quad bike thief has been found hiding under a table in a garden after a late-night farm theft.

    The theft happened at a farm in Clapham, near Ingleton, at 03:00 yesterday.

    Afterwards a man in a silver VW Passat was found in "suspicious circumstances" nearby but drove off, according to officers.

    The vehicle he was driving then crashed into a wall and was abandoned.

    A 23-year-old man, from Bradford, was eventually sniffed out by police dog Dixon at about 04:30.

    He was hiding under a table in a garden nearby.

    He was arrested on suspicion of theft of the car, the theft of the quad bike and going equipped for theft.

    The stolen quad bike, along with another, also suspected stolen, were found dumped in a field later that morning.

    The man remains in police custody.

    Queues on the M62 towards Manchester have subsided slightly.

    An earlier accident near Huddersfield has now been cleared.

    There are still 10-miles of queues heading westbound however, from the M1 all the way to junction 27 on the M62:

  4. Sheffield road closures for weekend racepublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 21 September 2018

    There are a number of road closures in Sheffield city centre this weekend ahead of the Sheffield 10k run.

    Thousands of runners will take to the streets for the run, which starts and ends on Arundel Gate in town.

    Upper Hanover Street, St Mary's Road, Arundel Gate, Charter Row, Ecclsesall Road, Rustlings Road, Graham Road, Riverdale Road, Endcliffe Vale Road, and Brocco Bank are all expected to have road closures in place.

    Organisers Run For All say some roads may be closed from 04:00 until 16:00, but most closure will run from 08:30 until 12:15.

  5. Yorkshire MPs react to PM's EU statementpublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 21 September 2018

    Prime Minister Theresa May has said the EU must treat the UK with "respect" in Brexit negotiations.

    In a statement at Downing Street she said for EU leaders to reject her plan with no alternative at this "late stage of negotiations" was "not acceptable".

    Yorkshire's MPs have been reacting this afternoon.

    The Conservative MP for Pudsey, Stuart Andrew, was a little more supportive of the Prime Minister.

    He said: "I think the statement is bang on.

    "To just reject without a decent alternative is just not on."

    More now on an incident on the M62 this afternoon.

    Police have closed both main roundabouts off junction 27 of the M62 this afternoon, causing a 13-mile queue westbound.

    The police have closed the road beneath the main M62, the A62, after a serious crash.

    One twitter user said: "For anyone thinking of travelling to Leeds via Birstall, I strongly recommend you choose an alternative route! I’ve been stuck here for 30+mins."

    In a separate incident, three cars have crashed further towards Manchester at junction 25.

    That means people coming off the M1 and heading towards Manchester have a 13-mile queue ahead of them.

    Bin collection days in Hull will be changing next month in a move that could potentially affect up to 50,000 homes.

    Hull City Council says it has made the changes to ensure its collection crews are working most effectively.

    The authority adds the new schedule has taken into account rush hour times, properties that have been demolished, and new growth areas in the city.

    Waste and recycling information packs will be delivered next week to notify residents how the changes affect them.

    A man has been charged with the manslaughter of a man who died after being assaulted outside a pub.

    Stephen Campbell, 42, died in hospital after being seriously injured on Tuesday evening outside the Boy and Barrel pub on Beast Market in Huddersfield.

    Paul McCabe, 55, of Ashenhurst Rise in Newsome, Huddersfield, was remanded in custody at Kirkless Magistrates' Court.

    He will appear at Leeds Crown Court on 19 October.

    In a statement, Mr Campbell's family said: "We are absolutely devastated. Stephen was such a beautiful person.

    “Thanks to everyone that helped him at the time and for the kind tributes.”

    A man who died after falling from cliffs in Orkney was from the Sheffield area, police have confirmed.

    Colin Middleton, 49, was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital, officers said.

    The husband of a pregnant woman from Bradford who was killed in a road collision in Lincolnshire says their three-year-old daughter still cries out for her mum at night.

    Mother-of-one Aneta Zdeb, 26, was killed after a makeshift tow bar fitted to a van snapped causing a crash on the A17 in Leadenham last summer.

    Lukasz Orywal, 32, and Andy Hurns, 28, were each sentenced to three years and nine months earlier this week after they admitted causing death by dangerous driving.

    Mrs Zdeb was 14 weeks pregnant at the time and died from injuries to her liver and heart from the "massive impact".

    Her widower Kamil Zdeb today said: "I wouldn't wish the pain that we have suffered on anyone."
