Julia Mulligan says her force is getting no additional funding towards staffing one of the world's biggest cycling events, which centres around Harrogate in a year's time.

The commissioner says the force has £500,000 in its budget to cover the event, but it will take 22,000 officer hours across Yorkshire to police it.

She says because there's no central venue for the race, the force can't charge for policing it and says event organisers should "pay the vast majority" of the costs.

Mrs Mulligan says there needs to be a change in the law, so the force can be paid for staffing events which take place over a number of locations, in the same way they would be for staffing events at a central venue.
