Eve Ashforth, 28, says she decided to sign up for the Clipper 2019-20 Round the World Yacht Race to prove to herself she could achieve anything.
Eve says: “Many of my friends ask me if I'm already a great sailor and when I explain I'm a complete newcomer they're somewhat shocked."
During the last 40,000 mile challenge competitors encountered 14-metre high waves and hurricane force winds.
Eve has to pass four levels of race training before lining up for the start.
She's now completed two of the levels and says: “Considering I've never sailed before, level one was a huge shock - excuse the pun, but it was literally like being thrown in the deep end."

Read MoreThe morale of GPs in the Wakefield area is "precarious," according to the man leading a review of how doctors are coping with workloads.
Last year, the British Medical Association warned patient care across the UK was at risk due to a "chronic shortage" of new doctors replacing those who had reached retirement.
Dr Greg Connor, who is examining the issue of workloads, said: "Overall, although morale is precarious in general practice in Wakefield, we've done a lot of work to innovate and to collaborate between surgeries."
His comments come as 11 practices have been told by Wakefield's Clinical Commissioning Group to improve patient satisfaction levels.
Quote MessageWakefield's a good place to practice, but we've a situation where our best practices are some of the best in the region and some of our not-so-good surgeries are a lot worse than the not-so-good ones elsewhere."

A David Hockney-designed stained glass window celebrating the Queen's reign has been revealed at Westminster Abbey.
The Queen's Window is in the north transept and replaces one of the building's few remaining clear windows.
Hockney, who was born in Bradford, created the design on his iPad.
He said the hawthorn blossom scene is set in Yorkshire.
Westminster Abbey said the result: "Reflects the Queen as a countrywoman and her widespread delight in, and yearning for, the countryside."
Barley Studio in York created the 20ft (6.1m) x 6ft (1.8m) window using traditional techniques.
Quote MessageThe iPad is back-lit like a window, it's a natural thing to use. I learnt something about glass. It was a challenge."
