    TransPennine Express says it has no plans to get rid of staff from its trains in North Yorkshire, following strikes by workers at Northern who are unhappy about plans to get rid of guards.

    Chris Nutton, a director at TransPennine Express, says there are no plans to follow suit and remove staff from its trains.

    He said: "For our business we've made the decision to have staff on board our trains, but that' a specific decision around our network and our trains."

    A crackdown on "county lines" drug dealing in North Yorkshire has seen 15 people arrested since the start of the month.

    North Yorkshire Police are targeting the practice where drug dealers from urban areas exploit children and vulnerable people, forcing them to travel to places like York, Scarborough and Harrogate to sell drugs.

    Detective Chief Inspector Graeme Wright said: "Our aim is to make North Yorkshire a hostile place for county lines activity."

    The A65 was blocked by a fallen tree, but has now reopened thanks to the help of tree surgeons who were stuck in traffic on the road, in North Yorkshire.

    PCSO Ruth Pearson had shared a picture of the scene, just outside Gargrave on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, on Twitter, advising motorists to avoid the area and warning there could be delays.

    But she said the road was now open, thanking the tree surgeons "who were caught in the queue" and their "handy chainsaw".

    There is currently about a six mile queue on the M1 after a car fire at J39.

    The fire is now out according to Highways England, and they are now recovering the burnt out shell.

    Checks will need to be made however, to make sure the road hasn't been damaged.

    There are no reports of any injuries.

    Only one of its four trains remained operational, running a shuttle between Hull and Doncaster, but this has now stopped.

    Last Friday there was a fire on board one of the company's trains which has seriously affected the service this week.

    Two people from West Yorkshire are due to stand trial next year accused of being members of a banned Neo-Nazi group.

    Alice Cutter, 22, and Mark Jones, 24, from Sowerby Bridge, are among five people who deny being part of National Action.

    They're accused of being part of the group after it was outlawed in 2016, for being "a racist, anti-Semitic and homophobic organisation" and for praising the murder of Labour MP Jo Cox.

    The defendants are due to appear for a plea and trial preparation hearing on 28 January.

    The Sex Pistols' iconic vinyl cover sleeves are among a series of retrospective works by punk artist Jamie Reid, which have gone on display.

    Liverpool artist Jamie Reid is best-known for creating the band's debut album cover.

    His graphical work, spanning 50 years, includes the use of newspaper-cuttings.

    Reid's designs for the Sex Pistols singles, Anarchy in the UK and God Save The Queen, feature in the exhibition at the Humber Street Gallery in Hull.

    Other artwork being exhibited are collages, drawings, paintings, posters and photographs dating back to the 1970s, as well as previously unseen archived material and new pieces including his work with Russian protest group Pussy Riot.

    The gallery said the exhibition, which runs until 6 January, was the artist's "first major" retrospective in the UK.

    Curator David Sinclair says it's "a fantastic insight" into the last 50 years of his work, which covers punk, politics and spirituality.

    A High Court judge has ruled that drilling for shale gas can go ahead in Lancashire, after dismissing an appeal that it might be unsafe.

    It comes as Third Energy, the company behind plans to frack at Kirby Misperton near Malton, says its expecting to begin drilling next year.

    Third Energy was given approval in 2016 for the first fracking operation in the UK since 2011, but is yet to begin work.

    Campaigners fear drilling could damage public health and the environment.

    An East Yorkshire charity is using collection boxes in the shape of toilets as it tries to raise £20,000 for new disability-friendly loos.

    Sight Support Hull and East Yorkshire is using porcelain toilet donation boxes as it tries to bring in funds to replace its 40-year-old loos.

    Chief executive Sandra Ackroyd said: "We have quite a lot of accessibility problems. The cubicles are really very narrow and that really isn't very helpful for people with visual impairment."

    The charity is distributing about 100 donation boxes and are asking businesses to get in touch if they're willing to take one.

  20. 'Two officers attacked' at Doncaster prisonpublished at 12:25 British Summer Time 12 October 2018

    Two prison officers have been attacked and prisoners couldn't be put in segregation units after the incident at a South Yorkshire jail because they were full, the Prison Officers Association (POA) says.

    One prison officer was strangled into unconsciousness in the early hours while working at Lindholme Prison, near Doncaster, with the POA claiming management there don't "seem to care or be concerned".

    Staff at HMP Lindholme "genuinely feared for their safety" this morning and refused to enter the prison until safety assurances and plans were put in place, the POA says.

    The Ministry of Justice says workers met the prison governor this morning about safety concerns and are now back at work.
