    A road has reopened after a police incident in Mexborough this morning.

    Police officers had earlier closed Greens Way A6023, between the Lidl supermarket and the Adwick Road roundabout.

    A police spokesperson said the action followed concerns for the welfare of a man.

    A woman who faced having her free transport to and from hospital for dialysis treatment axed had been told the decision has been put on hold.

    Andrea Hansell, 48, from Haxby, near York, needs treatment three times a week at York Hospital.

    She said the decision to cut her free transport by the Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group was a "death sentence".

    It said she does not meet the eligibility criteria under government guidelines.

    She has now been told the transport will continue to be provided for the time being.

    Farmers were asked to help with the search effort after a light aircraft crash in a field near Leven, East Yorkshire.

    The pilot and a passenger died in the crash.

    They were asked to look in fields using their headlights, and to take high-powered lamps and torches with them.

    The alert was put out via Farm Watch, which is a scheme to combat rural crime around East Yorkshire.

    The publisher of newspapers including the Yorkshire Post, Sheffield Star and Wakefield Express has put itself up for sale.

    The move by Johnston Press follows a strategic review.

    The company has £220m of borrowing which is due for repayment in June next year.

    A decline in traditional and digital advertising revenues has seen the value of its titles fall.

    Johnston Press saw revenue fall by 10% in the first half of 2018, although it reported a pre-tax profit of £6.2m.

    Police initially said two people killed in a light aircraft crash were thought to be safe and a search was under way to locate them.

    Humberside Police later released a statement saying "following an extensive search," both the pilot and the passenger were found dead.

    The force said they had suffered fatal injuries when the plain crashed in a field near Leven, close to Beverley Airfield.

    A statement said: "We want to thank all emergency services, volunteers and local residents involved in the search, their assistance is very much appreciated."

    The public are being asked to help decide what happens with the old Bootham Park hospital in York.

    The council's asked for the sale of the former psychiatric facility to be put on hold so members of the public may submit their views on its future.

    They'll be gathering responses until the end of this month.

    The hospital closed suddenly in 2016 after it was found not fit for purpose by inspectors.

    A children's services organisation facing financial difficulties could be bailed out by a South Yorkshire council.

    Doncaster Council is expected to cover the Children's Services Trust's £6m deficit.

    It blames the deficit on a rising demand for its services.

    The council says it will use money left over from other departments to cover the cost.

    Council bosses are recommending cabinet members agree to sign off the payment at a meeting next week.

    the 83-year-old was last seen wearing an oatmeal jumper and dark trousers.

    People who have been a victim of crime in West Yorkshire will now get the chance to talk to the offender.

    £900,000 will be spent on the Restorative Justice Service over the next three years.

    Up til now only certain parts of West Yorkshire have run the programme.

    The scheme is seen as a way of making criminals understand the harm and distress they've brought to their victims.

    West Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner, Mark Burns Williamson, says it can empower individuals and their families and help them move on from being victims.

    Two people have died after a light aircraft crashed near an airfield in East Yorkshire last night.

    The missing aircraft prompted a major search.

    Farmers in the area, near Beverley, took to the roads to search fields using headlights on their vehicles.

    It emerged the plane had come down close to Beverley Airfield near Leven.

    Both the pilot and passenger suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

    Their families have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers, officers said.

    Humberside Police said they wanted to thank everyone involved in the search and said a full investigation would be carried out into what had happened.

    Rotherham could have to cut the number of youth centres due to the rising costs of maintaining buildings, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    If the proposals are accepted by the council's cabinet, it would mean the end for children's centres in Park View, Broom Valley and Wath, leaving nine others across the borough.

    The way the proposed changes have been structured means there would be no loss of frontline jobs.

    New venues for the services would be sought, including libraries and schools.

    The council said the changes are being forced upon it due to a reduced income.

    A man and a woman have been arrested following two drug raids in Bridlington today.

    Police raided properties in Haslemere Avenue and Albion Terrace simultaneously.

    They say "a quantity of heroin" was found.

    A second man, who was in the property at Albion Terrace, has been released without charge after an extensive search of the address.

    Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was hit by a car after he collapsed in Batley today.

    He was then hit by a white Toyota Auris.

    Police are appealing for anyone who saw the incident to get in touch with them.
