    A new report has found there are just five electric charging points for cars in Scarborough, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    There are 34 charging points across North Yorkshire, but some are on private land and others only work with certain types of car.

    A new report, prepared for North Yorkshire County Council, noted: "Compared to the rest of England the distribution of charge points in Yorkshire and the Humber region is fairly sparse."

    Yorkshire and the Humber has just 1.5 charging points per 10,000 of the population, below the national average of 2.4 per 10,000 people.

    Scarborough Borough Council has now listed providing electric vehicle charging infrastructure as one of its priorities for its Town Centre Strategy.

    It's hoped a World War One medal found in the River Loxley can be reunited with its rightful owner.

    The medal was found by police divers from the Yorkshire and the Humber Marine Unit.

    It could have belonged to Private Stephen Smith of the York and Lancaster Regiment, according to the team.

    It's hoped his family can have the medals returned to them.

    A new mobile operating theatre has arrived at Goole hospital.

    The trust which runs the hospital say it will help relieve winter pressures on the hospital.

    They had to compete with other hospitals internationally to get the mobile unit delivered.

    More than 30 obstacles are being erected in Hull today as part of preparations for the Hulltimate Challenge.

    Organised by the Living with Water partnership, the event is designed to engage with the public about the threat of flooding.

    Hull is the largest city outside of London to be vulnerable to severe flooding.

    Former UK deputy prime minister and ex-Sheffield Hallam MP Nick Clegg has been hired by Facebook as head of global affairs, the Financial Times reports.

    Mr Clegg, 51, will move to Silicon Valley in January to succeed Elliot Schrage, the report said, external.

    Facebook has so far not responded to a request for comment.

    A proposal to build a Viking Great Hall in a York car park is being backed by councillors in the city.

    It would stage "immersive theatre shows" based on the Vikings and would be built on the same car park which housed a replica Shakespearean theatre over the summer.

    Bifrost Entertainments wants to build the great hall and courtyard theatre on the car park next to the historic 13th Century Clifford's Tower.

    The temporary structure would be in place between 18 January and 3 May 2019.

    The performance space would feature "360-degree sets, live actors, and special effects" and would seat about 100 people per show, according to Bifrost.

    New security gates costing up to £250,000 could be installed around Hull Guildhall.

    The fences would cordon-off both ends of Hanover Square, behind the council's headquarters building.

    The local authority's proposals are yet to go to planning, and it's still unclear how much they could cost.

    Hull City Council say it has a duty to review its security arrangements and this application follows that review.

    Conservative councillor John Fareham has criticised the proposals, saying any amount spent on the gates would be a waste of money.

    Police are trying to locate this 16-year-old boy who's gone missing from his home in Leeds.

    Saleh Mordi was reported missing on 12 October after he failed to return to his home and officers believe he could now be in the Sheffield area.

    He’s described as black, 6ft tall and of a medium build.

    He has brown eyes and was last seen wearing a camouflage jacket, black trousers and grey trainers.

    The bar opened late last year.

    The boss of York-based building firm Persimmon has walked off camera during a BBC interview after being asked about his £75m bonus.

    Jeff Fairburn was initially awarded shares worth more than £100m in 2017, but after a public backlash he later agreed to reduce it to £75m.

    At the time, the bonus was thought to be the largest ever awarded at a listed company, and one shareholder called it "grossly excessive":

    After a battle between two West Yorkshire towns, today's the day the victor finally appears on the latest version of the world-famous board game Monopoly.

    The new Huddersfield version of the game has squares named after landmark places in the town.

    It comes after the town, whose luminaries include 1960s and 70s Prime Minister Harold Wilson and Doctor Who actor Jodie Whittaker, came top in a poll fought between itself and Halifax.

    Street lights in Leeds will be upgraded at a cost of £25.4m in an attempt to reduce the cost of running them.

    Leeds City Council will convert 86,000 lights across the city to new LED lamps.

    A further £5m will be spent in making the light system across the city more controllable as part of a Smart City network.

    The council says it spends around £4.8m a year on electricity to run approximately 92,000 street lights, 6,000 of which already have LED lamps.

    The work, which will begin next summer, will last four years and is expected to generate savings of £3.4m a year at current energy prices.

    A fire at a pub and former hotel in Bridlington is being treated as arson, police have confirmed.

    Over 50 firefighters and ambulance crews attended the fire at the Londesborough Hotel on Wednesday afternoon.

    It's been confirmed that the building has been deemed unsafe.

    Work is now being carried out to secure the site with a road cordon remaining in place.

  19. Man charged over botched shop robbery in Rotherhampublished at 10:39 British Summer Time 19 October 2018

    A man has been charged in connection with a botched armed robbery at a post office in Rotherham during which a shopkeeper was hit over the head with a bottle.

    The incident happened on Wednesday when a man entered the post office on Brinsworth Road, Catcliffe, threatened staff and demanded cash and cigarettes.

    The shop owner then entered the store and tried to detain the offender, police say.

    The owner was then hit with a bottle, causing injuries to his head.

    Thomas Whaley, 36, has been charged with two counts of robbery, wounding, threatening with an offensive weapon and possession of a knife or bladed object and is due in court later.

    A seven-year-old girl's been left injured after being hit by an off-road motorbike in Scarborough.

    It happened just before 20:00 last night on Colescliffe Road.

    The girl was taken to Scarborough Hospital for treatment for a broken leg and cuts.

    A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody.

    Officers want anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anyone riding a small motorbike to contact them.
