    John Tomsett, who runs Huntington School in the city, will appear before a professional conduct panel next week.

    The reasons for the hearing have not been disclosed, but according to the government website the case is connected to his time as a teacher in Eastbourne.

    Police in Leeds are looking for a man after a woman was sexually assaulted at Leeds railway station.

    It happened on 9 September at about 18:20, when a man followed the young woman into the south entrance of the station and sexually assaulted her on the escalator.

    She confronted him and he ran back down the escalator and out of the station.

    Police have released a picture of a man they wish to speak to.

    A new market planned for the centre of Hessle will breathe new life into the town, campaigners hope.

    The idea for the market came from community group Hessle First.

    A crowdfunding page set up to support the project has been well supported and it's due to open on the last Saturday in November.

    Leeds Inner Ring Road is closing tonight to make sure a bridge is safe after an overweight vehicle went over it at the weekend.

    The road will be closed in both directions at the Calverley Street bridge from 21:00 tonight until 05:00.

    Leeds City Council say initial inspections have been carried out, but a more detailed look is needed to see if any structural damage has been caused.

    The city council say it is investigating how an overweight vehicle came to drive over the bridge.

    Sheffield has joined councils across the country in calling for the government to welcome 10,000 more refugees over the next decade, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    It comes ahead of the 80th anniversary of the Kindertransport, which brought 10,000 children fleeing Nazi prosecution to safety in the UK.

    Tina Ball, a refugee campaigner, submitted a petition to Sheffield City Council following the national Kindertransport Legacy Campaign, which is led by Lord Alf Dubs, who was a Kindertransport child.

    Lord Dubs called on central government to start a fully-funded scheme to resettle 10,000 children at risk over the next decade.

    Hundreds of plastic bottles have been handed in at a car park in Leeds in return for a reduction in the cost of parking.

    The initiative allows drivers to pay for parking by trading in empty bottles for tokens.

    Each bottle, which has to be at least 500ml, is worth 20p - motorists can exchange as many as they like.

    Hull City Council is to meet with the bosses of Hull Trains this afternoon, following disruption to the direct London service.

    Hull Trains cancelled all its services on Saturday, because all of its trains were broken.

    Hull Trains said the disruption was down to "more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time".

    Its rolling stock had already been reduced after a fire on a train at Grantham on 5 October.

    The city council is expected to ask the company to come up with a contingency plan to help it cope when it has maintenance problems.

    Young people in Sheffield are struggling with their self worth, a new report reveals.

    The city's Healthwatch charity quizzed 150 14-25 year olds living in the city and the majority of respondents said they had "negative feelings" about themselves.

    The study was conducted because young people have greater access to manufactured images and the "narratives of others' lives" due to social media, according to Healthwatch.

    A dog which is believed to have been left abandoned by poachers at the weekend is doing "well" after being found by Humberside Police officers.

    He was picked up in the countryside on Saturday and spent a couple of hours on "paw patrol", police say.

    The dog has been affectionately given the name "Dobby", a character from the Harry Potter films.

    A teenage survivor of the Manchester Arena bombing is hoping to bring a bee sculpture commemorating the attack to South Yorkshire when it goes under the hammer later.

    Amelia Thompson (above), 13, from Dronfield, has been raising money for the sculpture in memory of victim Kelly Brewster.

    Ms Brewster (below) 32, from Sheffield, was among 22 people killed in the attack at the Ariana Grande concert in May 2017.

    Over 100 bee sculptures were placed around Manchester to form an art trail in memory of the victims and about 75 are now being auctioned.

    Amelia said she's been raising £8,000 to "bring a bee to Sheffield to remember Kelly" and said she hopes the bee sculpture will be a "lasting memorial".

    "We want to bring it to Sheffield to bring the city together and remember Kelly," she added.

    North Yorkshire-based energy firm Drax has bought Scottish Power's final gas and hydro stations.

    That means Scottish Power will become the first major UK energy company to generate all its electricity from wind power instead of coal and gas.

    Drax has paid £702m for the rest of the company's conventional generation business.

    Chief executive Will Gardiner said: "We believe there is a compelling logic in our move to add further flexible sources of power to our offering."

    Drax runs the UK's biggest power plant near Selby in North Yorkshire and is moving away from coal ahead of a government deadline for an emissions limit on coal plants from 2025.

    It has already converted four of its six generating units to burn wood pellets.

    The Selby plant is believed to be the first bioenergy carbon capture storage project of its type in Europe.

    Almost 3,000 people have so far signed a petition to stop plans to turn part of a West Yorkshire park into a crematorium.

    Campaigners want to stop Northcliffe Park in Shipley being considered as a location to replace an existing facility in Nab Wood.

    The petition calls on Bradford Council, external to reject Northcliffe Park as the location for a new crematorium due to "the permanent loss of valued public green space that would result".

    It urges the council to "exhaustively pursue the acquisition of a alternative site".

    The petition will now be sent to senior councillors for consideration.

    Staff from several colleges across Yorkshire are due to take part in a protest in London later over funding cuts.

    More than 3,000 people are expected to march in Westminster this afternoon.

    Colleges say budget cuts have lead to teachers being paid less and a reduction in courses.

    They're warning it could lead to skills gaps in the future.

    The government says it's aware of the pressures and is looking at how to fund the sector in the future.

    A man is in hospital with serious injuries after he was attacked in Barnsley, police say.

    Emergency services were called to Coniston Road, near Oakwell, just after 18:00 yesterday.

    A 28-year-old man was found with a serious head injury.

    A police cordon is still in place, with officers asking anyone with information into the attack to get in touch.

    Thousands of students at the University of York have had their water supply restored after lectures had to be cancelled when the supply dried up causing major disruption.

    Buildings across large parts of Campus West were left completely without water yesterday due to the problem.

    Portable toilets and 6,000 bottles of water had to be brought onto the campus for students, with one wit referring to the problem as "poopmageddon".

    The issue was caused by a burst pipe which cut off water to large parts of the campus, meaning there was no water to cook, shower or use the toilet.

    Staff and non-resident students were asked to go home and catering was shut down.

    Happily for all concerned, the leaking pipe has now been fixed and water supplies resumed.

    A researcher at the University of Sheffield who was jailed after taking part in a fracking protest near Blackpool is due to appeal against his sentence today.

    Simon Blevins, 26, was convicted of causing a public nuisance and was sentenced to 16 months in prison at Preston Crown court in September.

    His case is due to be heard at the Court of Appeal later today.
