    Armed police officers searching for a man who is wanted for firearm offences have carried out a number of raids in Dewsbury and Wakefield this morning.

    Officers made a number of raids on Pinderfields Road in Wakefield as part of the search in the early hours of this morning.

    Officers also stopped a vehicle in the Hostingley Lane area of Dewsbury.

    The man is wanted on suspicion of firearms offences and remains at large, officers said.

    The Rt Revd Dr Jonathan Frost, currently the Suffragan Bishop of Southampton, has been confirmed by the Queen as the next Dean of York.

    He will replace Vivienne Faull who was chosen as Bishop of Bristol earlier this year.

    The Dean of York is responsible for the day-to-day running of the historic York Minster

    Dr Frost says he's "delighted and honoured" to have been invited to take up the role.

    Trains are back to normal this morning after major disruption in the Hull area caused by over-running engineering works.

    Network Rail said the work had been planned "meticulously", but trains were not ready to run between Hull and Selby.

    Testing of new equipment took "longer than anticipated", the firm said, which led to delays for passengers travelling from Hull to York, London and Leeds.

    Amy Brenndorfer, from Network Rail, said: "We plan projects like this meticulously, sometimes things do go wrong and when they do, we work as quickly as possible to resolve them.

    "We do understand this is disruptive. It's a Monday morning and we can only apologise for that," she added.

    A man who's gone missing from Leeds is thought to be in Blackpool, police say.

    James Atkinson, 32, from Seacroft, was reported missing on Saturday evening when concerns were raised for his welfare.

    He was last seen wearing a khaki parka coat, white shirt, blue jeans and khaki trainers.

    Officers are appealing to people in Blackpool who may have seen him to get in touch with West Yorkshire Police.

    The identity of the new boss of one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in northern Europe is due to be announced later.

    They'll replace Vivienne Faull, who became Dean at York Minster in 2012, a position she held for six years until being chosen as Bishop of Bristol earlier this year.

    The Dean of York is responsible for the day-to-day running of the historic York Minster and the new holder of the title will be announced by the Archbishop of York.

    It's thought the first stone church was built on the site of the present day Minster in the year 633.

    The building of a new cathedral was begun after the Minster was burnt during an invasion by William the Conqueror's army in 1069.

    As the tallest building in the city York Minster dominates the city's skyline.

    Earlier this year a decade-long project to refurbish its vast expanse of medieval stained glass was finished.

    All 311 glass panels were removed from the 600-year-old Great East Window in 2008.

    Police are trying to find this registered sex offender who's not told them his new address after being released from prison:

    Christopher Wilkinson, 43, is wanted for failing to attend court and breaching his Sex Offender Notification Requirements when he left prison.

    He was jailed for an offence of voyeurism last year, according to South Yorkshire Police.

    Wilkinson, previously of no fixed address, is known to frequent Doncaster town centre, Conisbrough and areas close to Bawtry Road and Tickhill Road.

    The force says he's been wanted since late August.

    If anyone sees him, or knows where he is, they're being asked to contact police.

  10. 'Ops Room' plotter Edith Kupp marks 100th birthdaypublished at 09:59 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2018

    A West Yorkshire woman who served as an "Ops Room" plotter in the Battle of Britain has been given a horse-drawn carriage parade to celebrate her 100th birthday.

    Edith Kupp, from Keighley, helped track the movements of German bombers as part of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force during World War Two.

    She was on duty and overheard the call when her fiance Denis Wissler's plane burst into flames and he was killed.

    RAF members and air cadets joined the parade from Ms Kupp's care home in Silsden.

    Rail passengers have faced major disruption this morning as trains were unable to travel between Hull and Selby due to over-running engineering works.

    This has also affected passengers travelling from Hull to York, London and Leeds.

    Network Rail has apologised and all lines have now reopened, with services returning to normal. However, some trains may still be delayed or cancelled.

    One train passenger in Hull this morning told the BBC: "It's a joke, they need to get the services sorted."

    Another said: "You would have thought it would have been fixed by Monday morning. It must be the busiest day of the week."

    A man is being treated in hospital for serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle in Hillsborough over the weekend.

    The pedestrian was hit by a van or a minibus taxi on Penistone Road at about 04:00 on Saturday morning and was left with life-threatening injuries.

    The crash is thought to have taken place close to the junction with Bastock Road as the vehicle was travelling towards the city centre.

    Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash to get in touch.

    A new project is due to start at a Yorkshire power station today which it's said could make its renewable electricity "carbon negative", meaning it takes out more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than it creates.

    The trial, at Drax Power Station near Selby, will use technology that removes gases which cause global warming by capturing and storing carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere, while at the same time producing electricity.

    If successful, the six-month pilot project will capture a tonne of CO2 a day from the gases produced when renewable power is generated by burning wooden pellets.

    Police are appealing for witnesses following a crash on a major road in Leeds at the weekend in which one man died.

    The collision, betweeen a white Skoda Yeti SUV and a white DAF tipper truck, happened at about 19:00 on Saturday on the Stanningley Bypass near Richardshaw Lane.

    The 46-year-old male driver of the Yeti was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The driver of the truck, which had broken down, was not in his vehicle at the time and wasn't hurt.

    Anyone who witnessed the incident or the circumstances leading up to it, particularly anyone who was driving in the area and has dashcam footage showing the collision itself or either vehicle prior to it, is being asked to contact police.

    Humberside Police are asking for the public's help in finding the boy.

    Huddersfield Town earned their first away win of the season and moved out of the Premier League relegation zone with a 2-0 win at Wolves at the weekend.

    Australian Aaron Mooy scored in either half to ensure the Terriers moved up to 14th in the table.

    Huddersfield arrived in the West Midlands with the worst scoring record in the division, mustering just six goals from their opening 12 games.

    Terriers manager David Wagner said: "Away wins are always very important in the Premier League and now we have the first one we have to try and surf on this wave we have created."

    The UK's only videogame museum has opened at its new base in Sheffield.

    The National Videogame Museum features dozens of playable consoles and arcade machines with classics such as Space Invaders and PacMan.

    It was previously based in Nottingham but closed because the building had become too hard to maintain.

    To coincide with the opening, a selection of titles made in Sheffield are on display, including Snake Pass, Monty Mole and Gang Beasts.

    Yorkshire could be more at risk from wildfires, heatwaves and flooding because of climate change, a new report suggests.

    In the report, Friends of the Earth reveals the places in England most at risk from the impact of global warming and calls on the government to do more to hit targets to cut carbon dioxide emissions.

    Simon Bowens, Friends of the Earth coordinator for Yorkshire, said: "Places like York and Leeds and many towns and villages in the region are living under the constant threat of flooding."

    The report is published today to mark the 10th anniversary of the Climate Change Act.

    The BBC has approached the Environment Agency for comment.
