    Police are appealing for witnesses after a motorist was seriously hurt in a crash in East Yorkshire just before Christmas.

    A man driving a silver Mercedes suffered injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening in a collision with a blue Seat Ibiza on the A165.

    Humberside Police want to speak to any witnesses following the incident at the junction with Dancing Lane in Long Riston on 23 December.

    A peacock which had taken up residence in the grounds of a West Yorkshire hospital has been found a new home.

    Percy the blue peacock appeared at Bradford Royal Infirmary just before Christmas, but has now been moved to a local farm.

    Hospital gardener, Stefan Zajac, says the bird, which is not native to the UK, "has done well to survive."

    Percy's not the first peacock to make its home in Yorkshire.

    It wasn't unusual, not that long ago, to see the birds wandering out of the gardens and crossing the road onto nearby streets.

    A woman is in a life-threatening condition after the car in which she was a passenger hit a wall in Slaithwaite, near Huddersfield.

    The vehicle crashed at the junction of Holt Head Road and Varley Road at about 09:15.

    Emergency services and an air ambulance are at the scene.

    Road closures at the location remain in place.

    A total of 17 people spent New Year's Day in police cells after being arrested over the holiday in the East Yorkshire and Humber region.

    There were no major incidents but 17 people were charged with offences ranging from drink-driving to assault, according to Humberside Police.

    A further two were cautioned, one was given a fixed penalty notice and another was dealt with through community resolution, the force added.

    In the 12 hours from 18:00 on New Year's Eve until 06:00 on New Year's Day there were 542 emergency 999 calls.

    Police want to speak to him regarding a spate of thefts targeting pensioners in Ossett.

    A woman in her 70s was unloading shopping from her car on Whitley Spring Road when she was approached by a man at about 16:20 on 17 December.

    He threatened her with a knife and fled with an amount of cash.

    Another woman, also in her 70s, was approached under the same circumstances outside her house on Nettleton Street on 28 December at about 17:30.

    The man then followed her inside her home, threatened her with a knife, and stole cash.

    The suspect is described as being of a slim build, tall and has many missing teeth.

    He was wearing a light-coloured jacket, woolly hat and a beige scarf.

    Det Ch Insp Sam Freeman said: "We are linking and believe it involves an opportunist thief who has targeted older women he has seen arriving at their homes.

    “These were clearly very frightening offences for the victims and also unusual for the Ossett area."

    Police are urging anyone who can identify the man in the e-fit to get in contact.

    A 16-year-old girl missing from Sheffield for almost two weeks has still not been seen.

    Pamela Horvathova was last seen in the Staniforth Road on Friday 21 December.

    She was reported missing on Christmas Eve.

    She was last seen wearing a black coat, with blue trousers and black shoes.

    She has black and blonde hair.

    This is the scene in Hull earlier this morning after a large green lorry got stuck while turning a tight corner in the city centre:

    The vehicle got trapped on the corner of Whitefriargate and Princes Dock Street next the Thorntons and Dorothy Perkins stores.

    It was there for a good 15 minutes, but it has now managed to turn the corner and carry on with its journey.

    The tram train service between Rotherham and Sheffield is experiencing delays due to a problem with the signalling system.

    A man has been arrested after another man was left with serious injuries during a New Year's Day attack in Sheffield.

    The 24-year-old victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries and is in a stable condition following the attack on Tuesday at about 01:10.

    A famous ship with several seamen from Hull aboard which sank without trace in 1915 could be close to being re-discovered.

    Endurance, which was the ship used by explorer Ernest Shackleton, sank after a failed bid to make the first land crossing of Antarctica.

    When Endurance became trapped by pack ice in the Weddell Sea, the crew had to abandon ship and camp out on one of the floes.

    The crew drifted until their floe split suddenly, forcing them to undertake a perilous journey in lifeboats and were finally picked up from Elephant Island in August 1916.

    Now a group of scientists say they're confident of finding the sunken vessel due to current sea ice conditions.

    Two separate plans to upgrade Bradford's city centre railway stations have both been delayed, with one of the schemes now likely to finish over a year later than planned.

    A £5.6m refurbishment of Bradford Interchange (above) is not now likely to be complete until October 2021, rather than September 2020 as originally planned.

    Improvements to the Interchange are the first stage of what's hoped to be a major transformation of the station, which could ultimately mean a high-speed rail link at or near the station.

    Meanwhile, a £17.3m project to completely upgrade Bradford Forster Square Station (above) will not now be completed until December 2021, nine months after the original March 2021 completion date.

    "Insufficient expertise" within Bradford Council is behind the start of the project being pushed back, according to a report going to the Combined Authority.

    Chris Froome has hinted he could take part in May's Tour de Yorkshire as part of his preparations for the Tour de France.

    The 33-year-old Team GB athlete has confirmed he'll not be defending his Giro d'Italia title so he can focus on a fifth Tour title, meaning he would be free to compete in Yorkshire.

    The Tour de Yorkshire takes place between 2-5 May.

    Three people have been released on bail in connection with an attack on a 27-year-old man in York who was found with serious injuries, believed to have been caused by a "bladed weapon".

    Police officers were called to Swan Street in York on New Year's Day.

    The man was taken to Leeds General Infirmary, where remains in a serious condition.

    A 31-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man were arrested at the scene.

    A further suspect, a 30-year-old man, was arrested later the same day in an armed police raid.

    A landmark East Yorkshire hotel, which is thought to be the oldest purpose-built hotel in England, has been put up for sale.

    Goole's Grade II-listed Lowther Hotel was built in 1824 and was designed by Sir Edward Banks, famous for building bridges over the River Thames in London.

    The current owners have decided to sell-up because of ill health and retirement.

    The nearby Drake pub is included as part of the sale.

    The Lowther became England's oldest purpose-built hotel after the Royal Clarence Hotel in Exeter was destroyed by fire in 2016 (pictured), according to tourism organisation Visit England.

    All traffic has been stopped as the crash is blocking all lanes.

    Emergency services are on the scene.

    A pedestrian has been run over and killed by a lorry in York.

    The man, in his 50s and from the city, is believed to have been crossing the A64 when he was struck, police say.

    It happened on the eastbound carriageway between the Grimston Bar and Hopgrove roundabouts at about 07:00.

    The road was closed until about midday on Wednesday to allow investigations to take place.

    Anyone who saw what happened or who has dash-cam footage of the incident is being urged to contact police.
