A then-eight-year-old Tony Foulds saw the US bomber crash in Endcliffe Park almost 75 years ago when it returned from a World War Two bombing flight.

Since then, Mr Foulds has been looking after the memorial near the site where 10 airmen were killed.

"I started off one day a fortnight coming down for 10 minutes", he said. "Now I go 260 times a year and I stay for three hours."

A fly-past has now been announced following a social media campaign by Sheffield TV presenter Dan Walker.

US Air Force and RAF planes will feature.

"The fly-past is going to be unbelievable. Unbelievable," said Mr Foulds.

    York Minster

Labour councillors have put forward plans for a voluntary tourist levy, which would be added to the cost of hotel stays, with visitors able to opt-out of paying, similar to the tip added to the bill in restaurants.

North West Street Medics announced on their Instagram account earlier this month they had ceased activities due to funding issues.

But following a request under the Freedom of Information Act, the council had asked the group to "desist from its activities" due to public safety concerns.

The group had been operating in Leeds since summer 2018, providing care for party-goers suffering from the effects of alcohol or drug use before they could be treated by NHS staff.

The council, police and ambulance service discussed the medic group and raised concerns of health and safety, qualifications, training and clinical supervision.

The North West Street Medics said they would cease patrols immediately and were seeking more funding to provide better training and services in the future.

A Leeds City Council spokesperson said: "Our primary concern is the safety of the public, including those volunteering for North West Street Medics.

"Any request by the group to start operating again in the city would need to ensure and provide assurances the appropriate and robust training, insurance, governance and operating arrangements are in place, and also demonstrate that professional standards are being met."

  20. Hessle Road street drinking problem highlightedpublished at 10:36 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2019

There are too many off-licences and not enough police officers to deal with anti-social behaviour problems, according to a Hull councillor.

    Hessle RoadImage source, Google

Councillor Haroldo Herrera-Richmond is calling for a crackdown on street drinkers on Hessle Road, saying he wants the council to take control over giving permission for certain types of shops to open.

He says there needs to be a change in the law.

"Councils who know their local areas need to be able to say there is a saturation point and not just having to give a licence out and then wait for the anti-social behaviour to increase," he said.

The situation on the mile-long Hessle Road is due to be discussed at a meeting later.
