    A winning Euromillions lottery ticket was bought in the Hambleton district of North Yorkshire in August 2018, but hasn't yet been claimed.

    The deadline to collect the cash is next week.

    If no-one makes a claim before the deadline, the prize money goes to National Lottery-funded projects across the UK.

    So it might be worth checking that laundry basket...

    A Liverpool fan "screamed out for my mum" and thought he was going to during the Hillsborough disaster, a jury heard.

    Christopher Parsonage told the trial of match commander David Duckenfield he was "carried down by the crowd" and "rammed" against a crush barrier.

    He told Preston Crown Court about his feelings of guilt at not being able to hold up a fellow supporter in distress.

    Former Ch Supt Duckenfield, 74, of Ferndown, Dorset, denies the gross negligence manslaughter of 95 fans.

    The victim of a collision in Leeds last week in which a woman died has been named as 71-year-old Kathleen Wilkinson.

    She was was knocked over when a Mercedes truck reversed out onto Main Street in Garforth at about 14:20 on 23 January,

    The 34-year-old truck driver was arrested and was later released under investigation.

    Det Sgt Fiona Hoodless said: "We are continuing to investigate this incident and would still like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw Kathleen or the scaffolding truck prior to the collision."

    Police are also keen to see any dash-cam footage at the time of the incident.

  6. Seven arrests in crackdown on 'county lines' drug dealingpublished at 16:43 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

    Seven people have been arrested in connection with "county lines" drug dealing over the past week, according to police in North Yorkshire.

    "County lines" is the term given to drug dealing where criminals from urban areas force young and vulnerable people to travel to smaller towns to sell drugs.

    The arrests include a man from Bradford, charged with possessing class A drugs with intent to supply and two men in their 30s from Harrogate, arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.

    Two women from Harrogate in their 20s were also arrested during the raids.One was released without charge, the other is still being held by police.

    In Skipton, an 18-year-old man and a 28-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply.

    Officers say they also seized mobile phones, a baton and 42 wraps of suspected cocaine and heroin from the premises.

    According to the latest statistics from The National Crime Agency there are currently more than 1,500 'county lines', external operating in England and Wales and the majority will involve the exploitation of multiple young or vulnerable people.

    A 33-year-old woman is wanted by police on suspicion of a series of thefts from shops around Hull.

    Officers have been trying to trace Kerry Hayward in connection with number of thefts dating back to last year.

    Anyone who knows where she might be is asked to get in touch with Humberside Police.

  9. M1 closure: Cyclist suffers life-threatening injuriespublished at 16:15 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

    A cyclist suffered potentially life-threatening injuries after he was in collision with a van near the M1 at Garforth this morning, it's emerged.

    The incident happened at the top of the northbound exit slip road at about 10:45.

    The man was taken to hospital by air ambulance.

    Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dash-cam footage.

    The M1 J47 northbound is to remain closed for at least a few hours as investigations continue.

    A Hull woman who was jailed after she was found with painkillers in her suitcase at an Egyptian airport says she thought her ordeal would never end.

    Laura Plummer broke down in tears as she arrived at Heathrow Airport earlier after being released from prison where she was serving a jail term for taking 290 Tramadol tablets into the country.

    She said: "I would like to thank everyone for supporting me through this, especially my family. I thought this would never end."

    A friendly little figure made of bronze has been stolen from a property in Malton.

    It is believed it has been sold on for scrap metal.

    The search is on for six dogs to join West Yorkshire Police's drugs and explosives detection team.

    The initiative follows an increase in dogs being abandoned in January and which need to be rehomed.

    The requirements for these elite canines are that they need to be:

    • Between about 12-24 months old
    • In good health
    • Ideally a working dog breed

    PS Stewart Dunderdale said: "There are lots of reasons why someone may find they are unable to continue having a dog as a pet.

    "But we know that charities do see an increase in animals being found or handed in at this time of year and it would be great if we could help them out."

    After an assessment and an eight-week course the dogs will then live with their handler and family.

    A cyclist suffered life-threatening injuries in a collision with a lorry in Hull yesterday morning, it's been revealed.

    The 58-year-old man received head and chest injuries after the incident near traffic lights at the junction of A165 Holderness Road and A1033 Mount Pleasant.

    Humberside Police are appealing for witnesses to the "serious road traffic collision", which happened at about 06:15.

    The forecast snow has reached higher parts of North Yorkshire.

    North Yorkshire County Council currently has gritters out to help keep roads clear in Richmondshire.

    The council says: "Our gritters are on patrol clearing snow as needed and keeping routes clear.

    "The A684 after Cotterdale and approaching Garsdale Head and the B6255 at Tarney Force are passable with care."

    The rest of the county is expected to see snowfalls at about 16:00 this afternoon.

    A drink-driver who caused the death of a schoolgirl changed his plea to guilty on the first day of his trial.

    Kaitlin Mitchell, 12, from Byram, near Knottingley, was seriously hurt in a hit and run on 28 September 2017.

    She later died in hospital.

    Gary Smith, 37, of Summerfield Drive, Brotherton, initially denied causing death by careless driving while over the drink-drive limit.

    He is due to be sentenced on 28 February.

    Judge Andrew Stubbs QC instructed the jury at York Crown Court to return a verdict of not guilty to a second charge, causing death by careless driving while under the influence of drugs, after the prosecution indicated it would not pursue the charge.

    Smith was warned by the judge to prepare for a "lengthy custodial sentence".

    More than 150 cannabis plants, with an estimated street value of up to £60,000, have been found by police in Hull.

    No-one was at the property, off Brecon Street, where officers found 64 "mature" plants and 105 smaller plants.

    Humberside Police also seized equipment for cultivating drugs, thought to be worth between £50,000 and £60,000.
