    Good news for drivers in Yorkshire heading south on the M1 today: the motorway's reopened following a serious crash earlier this morning.

    A woman has been taken to hospital after the smash between a lorry and two cars at about 03:30.

    The road between junctions 28 and 27 in Derbyshire has now partially reopened allowing trapped traffic to flow past the scene.

    Three men wearing balaclavas smashed their way into a bank in Leeds as part of an attempted robbery.

    It happened at about 17:10 yesterday at the Halifax bank in Windsor Court, Morley.

    Staff in the branch retreated to a secure area when the men broke in, according to police.

    However, the suspects left empty-handed after being unable to reach the safe and are believed to have made their getaway in a silver car.

    West Yorkshire Police is now appealing for witnesses.

    A woman from Rotherham has beaten almost 150 candidates to win a year-long contract with the BBC.

    Sile Sabanda picked up the award as part of BBC Radio Sheffield's This Is Me campaign which aims to find a new voice for the station for 2019.

    Open auditions were held at the New York Stadium in Rotherham in December.

    Dozens of sixth forms across Yorkshire are set to close as big colleges take their place.

    In Bradford alone, 13 sixth forms are to shut within two years as two new colleges are brought in.

    Closures are also planned in other areas including Leeds and Calderdale.

    In Sheffield, Bradfield School's sixth form is due to close because not enough students have applied to help make it financially viable.

    Divers are being diverted and a section of the M1 southbound remains closed following a multi-vehicle crash in which a woman has been seriously hurt.

    The collision, between two cars and a lorry, happened at about 03:00 and led to the road between junctions 28 and 27 being closed.

    The motorway between the exits is expected to be closed for some time, according to Highways England.

    The central reservation barrier is reported to have been damaged in the crash and Highways England has urged motorists driving south out of Yorkshire to plan a different route.

    The injured woman has been taken to hospital in Nottingham.

    Drax power station in North Yorkshire has become the first in Europe to capture carbon dioxide (CO2) from wood-burning.

    Drax burns seven million tonnes of wood chips each year to drive generators to make electricity.

    The firm has now begun a pilot project to capture one tonne a day of CO2 from its wood combustion.

    The technology effectively turns climate change into reverse on a tiny scale, but it’s controversial.

    There are several miles of queues on the M1 this morning after a crash in Derbyshire, affecting motorists heading south out of Yorkshire.

    Highways England cameras show about six miles of queues on the southbound carriageway after a crash involving a lorry and a van between junctions 28 and 27.

    There is damage to the barriers which means it will take time to repair, with Derbyshire Police earlier warning motorists the road will be closed "for a number of hours".

    A police cordon remains in place and investigations are continuing following an explosion in Batley on Wednesday night.

    Police initially believed the blast was caused by a gas explosion but now say the cause of the explosion is unknown but is not believed to be terrorism-related.

    Five people were taken to hospital after being injured in the blast.

    Specialist contractors are working to secure the building following the extensive damage.

    Hull's Marks and Spencer store will close on Saturday 4 May, it's been confirmed.

    The store on Whitefriargate had been earmarked for closure as part of the retailer's reorganisation plan.

    Marks and Spencer says that after "consulting with our colleagues" a decision was made to close the store.

    The retailer thanked the local community and said: "We hope to see lots of customers continuing to shop with us at our other stores in the region".

    There have been talks around the retailer moving to another site in the city, but nothing has been confirmed as yet.

    A 24-year-old man is still being questioned by police in connection with the disappearance of Hull student Libby Squire.

    Ms Squire, 21, hasn't been seen since a night out a week ago.

    Officers arrested a man on Wednesday night on suspicion of abduction.

    Last night, Police took a large illuminated billboard around the city displaying pictures of Ms Squire.

    They also handed out leaflets hoping for new information about where she might be.

    South Yorkshire's commuters are being warned about a serious crash between a lorry and two cars which has closed the M1 just over the border in Derbyshire this morning.

    The road between junctions 28 and 27 southbound will "be closed for a number of hours", according to Derbyshire Police.

    Traffic is expected to be busy in the area near the crash, with early morning commuters being told to expect delays heading southbound on the M1:
