    Motorists will benefit from shorter journey times and more space on the road after work starts on a junction in Bradford, it's claimed.

    The scheme, on Wakefield Road, will see the roundabout filled and the roads extended in a straight line.

    New street lighting will also be installed, along with pedestrian crossings, with the council saying it will "make the junction safer for pedestrians and motorists".

    While the work is carried out, the speed limit will be reduced to 30mph with lane closures being put in place.

    The work will last until "late summer", the council says.

    Councillor Jack Scott is no longer cabinet member for transport and development.

    A Labour group investigation linked to the suspension has been launched, the BBC understands.

    Meanwhile, Mr Scott remain as a councillor for Arbourthorne.

    The National Lottery is providing the village of Aldbrough with a grant of almost £10,000 to keep its bus service to Hull running for at least another year.

    Regular services provided by East Yorkshire Motor Service (EYMS) stopped abruptly last May due to financial reasons.

    Since then the parish council has been using short-term grants to keep a stop-gap service operating.

    Entries are now open for land decorations along the route of this year's Tour de Yorkshire race.

    Schools, businesses and land owners are being encouraged to create pieces that showcase their space.

    Last year a piece called "Confetti Land Art" at historic Wentworth Woodhouse took the prize.

    Hundreds of artworks have featured since the competition began in 2016.

    Welcome to Yorkshire's Sir Gary Verity said: "I always say the Tour de Yorkshire is so much more than a bike race and this a perfect example of how it can bring people together to celebrate their communities."

    Mystery surrounds the departure of a well-known councillor from Sheffield Council's senior team.

    Councillor Jack Scott is no longer a cabinet member, but it's unclear whether it was his decision to leave.

    He has declined to comment.

    Councillor Scott was cabinet member for transport and development and was in charge of some of the biggest issues in the city.

    Those included new homes, transport, development, climate change and air quality.

    He will remain as a Labour councillor for Arbourthorne where his term of office is until 2022.

    New photos of missing Hull University student Libby Squire have been released as police continue to search for her.

    The 21-year-old was last seen on Friday 1 February after being dropped off by a taxi close to her home.

    Her family have said they hope the new photos will help police searching for the missing student.

    "Libby has a big heart", her parents said in a statement. "She is always happy and having fun. She laughs a lot. She is a real family person, and loves spending time at home with them."

    Music from Sheffield star Richard Hawley is to form part of a musical based at the city's landmark Park Hill flats.

    Standing at the Sky's Edge, named after one of Hawley's albums, is the singer-songwriter's first move into musical theatre.

    His songs will be used to help tell the story of the sometimes notorious housing estate (pictured below) through the lives of three families.

    Opening in 1961 as one of the most ambitious inner-city housing scheme of its time, Park Hill flats are now Europe's largest listed building.

    Sheffield-born playwright Chris Bush wrote the play which is expected to be performed at the city's Crucible Theatre.

    Two schoolgirls have been seen walking on the M1 J39 motorway at Durkar.

    Highways England reported the sighting and have asked parents to check in with children.

    A man from Sheffield who jumped into a river to help save the life of an injured woman has been recognised for his actions.

    Cole Johnson was walking across a bridge with his girlfriend last year when he saw a body in the water.

    The woman had become stuck in the water and had a potentially serious head injury.

    Mr Johnson is said to have jumped into the water and used his jacket to help stem the bleeding before emergency services arrived.

    He has now been awarded a Chief Fire Officer’s commendation, the highest level of recognition and thanks available from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service.

    The whole of the Yorkshire coast could benefit from Flamingo Land's plans to build a new attraction in Scarborough, the borough's council leader has said.

    Derek Bastiman says the proposals would be a "game changer" for the town's South Bay.

    Dubbed Flamingo Land Coast, the entertainment complex is due to be built on the site of Scarborough's Futurist theatre.

    Designs include a 60 metre high Cliffhanger ride, a rollercoaster, and a four-storey building housing restaurants and play areas.

    People are being asked to give their views on the project.

    New footage of missing student Libby Squire on the night of her disappearance has emerged:

    The CCTV images show a woman, confirmed by police as the 21-year-old student, near the Welly Club music venue on 31 January at about 23:20.

    Police are continuing to search an area close to the last known sighting of Libby, from High Wycombe.

    A 24-year-old man arrested on suspicion of abduction remains a person of interest, police said.

    The video, filmed by a camera on a lettings agency next door to the club, shows Libby in a black jacket and a black skirt.

    A woman from Doncaster has been recognised as a "Litter Super Mum" because of the work she's done where she lives.

    Bex Shaw (left), from Balby, started picking up bits of litter near her home and has collected more than 200 bags of rubbish.

    She now runs a group of 250 volunteers.

    Doncaster Council has even given her £1,000 towards costs and she's become one of 100 Keep Britain Tidy Ambassadors across the country.

    Plans to help protect parts of Leeds from devastating floods are going on show later.

    The £112m proposals are designed to prevent flooding in places along the River Aire including Kirkstall, which was badly hit by flooding on Boxing Day 2015.

    New defence walls, embankments and a large flood storage area are all part of the plans.

    The event, at Milford Sports Club, takes place between 14:00 and 20:00.

    Campaigners trying to raise much-needed cash to restore a historic garden in Scarborough hope councillors will agree to support their plans.

    Scarborough's South Cliff Community Group are just one step away from hitting a £7m fundraising target towards restoring the town's historic South Cliff Gardens.

    They'll find out next month if councillors will agree to put £1.5m towards the work.

    Last month, the Heritage Lottery Fund awarded the community group more than £4.5m towards the restoration, but that grant depends on Scarborough Borough Council agreeing to contribute.

    A breakthrough in motor neurone disease (MND) research could pave the way for new treatments, according to researchers at the University of Sheffield.

    MND is a progressive disease that damages the function of nerves and muscles, resulting in severe damage to the brain and spinal cord.

    It has no cure at the moment and is responsible for the deaths of six people every day in the UK.

    The team discovered the loss of a key enzyme that could have major consequences for how people with MND cope with ageing, stress and loss of energy metabolism.
