    Hull City will hold a minute's applause later in memory of Yorkshire-born World Cup 1966 legend Gordon Banks.

    Mr Banks, who the club calls "one of the greatest goalkeepers to have ever graced the game", has died at the age of 81.

    Players will "commemorate the life" of the World Cup-winning goalie before kick-off at the KCOM Stadium tonight:

    Police are to increase patrols after a Sheffield playing field was used "like a race track" at the weekend.

    Members of the neighbourhood policing team for south east Sheffield said they were "really disappointed" by people damaging barriers at Skye Edge field and "wrecking" the grass there.

    In a Facebook post, officers said: "Needless to say, we will increase patrols, get the off-road bike team as much as possible and continue to try and work with the council to get some changes to stop this."

    Plans for a single Yorkshire mayor have been rejected by the government.

    The communities secretary has written to council leaders saying their plan to work together doesn't meet the rules.

    James Brokenshire MP said: "We are prepared to begin discussions about a different, localist approach to devolution in Yorkshire.

    "We know there is local appetite for other devolution elsewhere in Yorkshire, with representations having been made previously by the Leeds City Region, York and North Yorkshire and the Humber Estuary."

    Labour MP for Hull North Diana Johnson described the decision as "one size fits all as determined by Whitehall".

    Police will be marking bikes at Beverley Railway Station tonight following an increase in cycle theft there recently.

    British Transport Police East Riding say cyclists will be able to get their bikes security marked at the station between 17:00 and 20:00.

    Police say security marking, along with the use of bike locks around the frame and both wheels, reduces the risk of theft.

    The family of a three-year-old boy from North Yorkshire who has cancer is trying to raise £250,000 to send him to the United States for treatment.

    Freddie Thompson, from Thirsk, has neuroblastoma and his parents say he only has a 35% chance of survival.

    They have raised almost £50,000 to send him to the United States for specialist treatment which they say offers a "lot higher chance of becoming cured from this awful cancer".

    Freddie is currently being treated at Leeds General Infirmary and his mum, Emily, says the support they've received has been "heartwarming".

    A cordon is currently in place in Armley after a woman was found seriously injured earlier.

    She was found by police officers at about 09:40 this morning at a property on Athlone Grove.

    Police officers have been giving safety advice at the University of Hull, 12 days after student Libby Squire went missing.

    It comes as police officers continue to search parkland near her home, looking for clues to her disappearance.

    Police say finding the 21-year-old, who went missing after a night out on 31 January, remains their top priority.

    Officers have been at the university today and, as well as giving normal guidance for safety on nights out, they also have posters on hand giving more details about Ms Squire's disappearance.

    PCSO Claire Marriott said: "We're not telling them they can't go out and get drunk and have fun, it's about trying to look after each other and keep each other safe."

    A Rotherham businessman says criminal damage and anti-social behaviour has cost his business more than £24,000 in the last few months.

    Last week, several young people were "banned" from the town centre because of anti-social behaviour, according to police.

    Adrian Allen, who runs a hairdressing salon in Wath town centre with 10 staff and 24 trainees, says he's vowed to stop investing any more money in the area until something is done to stop it.

    Photographers and bird watchers have been flocking to a park near Leeds to catch a glimpse of a normally shy bird.

    The bearded tits have been spotted at St Aidan's Nature Park after venturing closure to the visitor centre.

    Specially designed reed nest boxes, known as bearded tit wigwams, which provide safe nesting areas for the birds above the water level, have been installed to encourage more sightings.

    A man from Ripon has been charged with attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity and to engage in communication.

    The man, aged in his forties, was arrested on 10 February.

    He has been remanded in custody and is to appear at York Magistrates’ Court on 12 February.

    Special lighting has been installed in outside viewing areas so astronomers can move around safely with minimum light pollution.

    Flowers have been left next to Sheffield-born goalkeeper Gordon Banks' star on the Walk of Fame.

    Banks was part of England's 1966 World Cup-winning and earned 73 caps for his country.

    He died last night at the age of 81.
