  2. Where to watch the fly-past in Sheffieldpublished at 07:18 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2019

If you're heading out to catch a glimpse of the planes over Sheffield as part of this morning's fly-past, there are plenty of places to see them.

We're expecting a mix of both US and UK aircraft, including an F-15E fighter jet, Typhoons, Ospreys and a Dakota.

It's thought they will fly over in a staggered formation because of airspace restrictions, so hopefully it won't be a "blink-and-you'll-miss-it" moment.

Flying from the south east, they're going to be following the red line above.

The main action will happen over Endcliffe Park near the city centre at 08:45.

Potential viewers are asked to arrive using public transport or on foot by 07:15 as it's expected to be very busy, but we'll keep you updated on events here and hope to bring you a live video feed too.

There is no car parking near the park, so if you haven't already arrived, you might be out of luck.

The council also recommends vantage points like Bolehills Park, Park Hill flats, Skye Edge playing fields and the Botanical Gardens.

  4. Sheffield fly-past preparations well under waypublished at 07:00

There's lots of activity already this morning at Endcliffe Park in Sheffield.

A fly-past is due to take place later to mark the 75th anniversary of a fatal plane crash.

The US bomber - a B-17 Flying Fortress known as Mi Amigo - came down in Endcliffe Park in 1944, killing all 10 airmen on board.

It comes after a successful campaign led by BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker to get a fly-past to mark the anniversary.

The BBC Outside Broadcast teams began work yesterday, and this morning they were busy working to get the final cables plugged in as BBC Breakfast came on air.

There's also a lot of activity from South Yorkshire Police too, who are busy securing the site.

Sheffield City Council are out in force too and I think we can all recognise that pretty familiar red sofa.

  6. 'Significant' improvements to policing promisedpublished at 06:31 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2019

People in York and North Yorkshire should see a "significant" improvement to the way they're policed by April next year, according to the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner.

Julia MulliganImage source, PCC North Yorkshire

Julia Mulligan made the commitment after she pushed through an increase of 10% in her share of the council tax.

It means householders in North Yorkshire will see an average increase of £23 on their yearly bills for the police and fire service.

She says the increase will mean an extra 50 police officers and 20 PCSOs and will also help tackle the growing threat of cyber crime.

Meanwhile, Mrs Mulligan failed to be automatically re-selected to be the Conservative candidate for her post after her current term ends in 2020.

In a routine re-selection meeting in Tadcaster last night she didn't to get the backing of enough Conservative party members to stand uncontested.
