    Do you recognise this man? Police would like to speak to him after a robber demanded cash from a Post Office in Leeds before leaving empty-handed.

    The suspect entered the shop on Dixon Lane at about 16:45 on 4 February.

    He demanded cash but was refused by staff and then left towards Kellet Cresent.

    The man is described as a white male with a ginger beard.

    He was wearing a fur-trimmed hat, blue trousers and black shoes.

    Anyone who recognises him is asked to contact police.

    Welcome to our coverage ahead of a very special fly-past which is due to happen tomorrow to mark the 75th anniversary of a fatal plane crash in a Sheffield park.

    The US bomber - a B-17 Flying Fortress known as Mi Amigo - came down in Endcliffe Park, Sheffield, in 1944 killing all 10 airmen on board.

    There was a campaign, led by BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker, to get a fly-past to mark the anniversary.

    The campaign began after Mr Walker met Tony Foulds, who witnessed the crash and who regularly tends to the memorial.

    The event, which will be focused at Endcliffe Park, will include a fly-past at 08:45 with US and UK aircraft including Ospreys, Typhoons and a Dakota taking part.

    People in East Yorkshire are being urged to be on the look out for a ruthless killer - the Asian hornet.

    A specialist Asian hornet action team wants to recruit walkers and gardeners to be on the look out for the insect, which can decimate whole colonies of honey bees.

    One was spotted in Cottingham last year and it's thought it may have hitched a ride to the area on a car.

    Now, it's being warned that they could come to Hull on ships from Europe.

    East Yorkshire beekeper Chris Coulsen, a member of the Asian hornet action team, says: "It's a voracious killer of honey bees, it hovers outside the hive, bites the head off and takes the rest back for its young."

    Witnesses and dash cam footage are being sought by police after a serious crash in North Yorkshire last night.

    A grey Nissan Note, travelling towards Harrogate on the A59, and a black Vauxhall Astra going in the opposite direction collided in Poppleton at about 16:00.

    A passenger in the Nissan, aged in her seventies, suffered serious injures and was taken to hospital by helicopter.

    Two others from both vehicles were taken to hospital.

    Police would like to hear from anyone with dash cam footage or who saw the incident.

    The driver of a stolen lorry and his three passengers have been jailed for running down and killing a woman near Barnsley last year.

    Jacqueline Wileman, 58, died when she was struck by the vehicle in Brierley on 14 September.

    Driver Karn Hill, 23, admitted causing death by dangerous driving, while passengers David Mellor, 48, Wayne Carroll, 29, and Alan Mawhinney, 53, were found guilty by a jury.

    The men were jailed for between 10-and-a-half and 13 years.

    After hitting mother-of-two Mrs Wileman the lorry careered into the side of a house, partially destroying the building.

    Chief Constable Dee Collins said: “From a service that has in the past been portrayed as male-dominated and masculine, we've seen a sea change. Today, some the UK's most high-profile senior police officers are women.

    A luxury Swiss watch engraved with names and a personal message was stolen during a burglary from a house in York.

    The Raymond Weil timepiece, which had three names etched onto the back, was taken from the house on Jute Road between the hours of 13:40 and 17:40 on Tuesday.

    North Yorkshire Police say offenders gained entry by breaking glass in a side door.

    The thieves took a number items including high-value watches and rings.

    The MP for Thirsk and Malton, spoke after Heidi Allen, Anna Soubry and Sarah Wollaston resigned to join an independent group, set up by former Labour MPs.

    Kevin Hollinrake said the party had been divided for years over the issue of Europe, although he doesn't think the Conservatives are "generally a hard-right party".

    He said: "Clearly, when you're running a minority government and you have 40 or 50 people who are hardline on a particularly issue, then you can't move that forward without taking their views into account."

    A woman who was being hunted by police after helping her boyfriend raid her grandfather's home to feed a drug habit has been arrested.

    Sherie North, of Harden Grove, Ravenscliffe, Bradford, and her then partner Scott Cross, 34, robbed her grandfather twice and threatened him with a hammer.

    The 24-year-old admitted two counts of robbery and one count of attempted robbery.

    She was given a two-year suspended sentence at Bradford Crown Court in December but the case was referred by the Attorney General's office.

    North was jailed for four years in her absence after Court of Appeal judges found a two-year suspended sentence was "unduly lenient".

    She will begin her sentence today.

  19. Barnsley Crematorium gets refit to tackle 'larger coffins'published at 11:59 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2019

    Almost £1m is to be spent on refurbishing a Barnsley crematorium to accommodate "larger coffins".

    Currently, requests for some cremations at Barnsley Crematorium are being turned down because of the coffins' size, according to Barnsley Council.

    Cremation equipment at the site is now to be replaced over the next two years with the new machines, known as cremators, having an increased capacity for larger coffins.

    The installation of the new cremators is expected to cost about £853,000.

    According to a report to Barnsley Council's ruling Cabinet: "Crucially, the newer machines have a larger capacity so are able to accommodate larger coffins, which will mitigate the current issue of having to refuse certain requests due to the size of the person being cremated, which currently means certain families are having to travel outside to neighbouring areas."
