    A man who was found dead in a Manningham street has been named by police.

    Paul Ackroyd, 37, was found dead at Jinnah Court at about 15:50 on 23 February.

    Four people have been arrested in connection with his death and remain in custody.

    Detectives are keen to speak to anyone with information about the incident.

    A motorcyclist from Leeds has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after colliding with a car, police say.

    It happened on Askwith Moor Road, between Fewston Reservoir and Otley, at 14.39 yesterday.

    The incident involved a black Peugeot car travelling towards the A59 and a blue and white older-style Yamaha motorcycle travelling towards Otley.

    The rider of the motorcycle, a 48-year-old man, was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary where he underwent surgery.

    The driver of the Peugeot was uninjured.

    Officers are appealing for people who witnessed the collision, or who saw either vehicle on Askwith Moor Road prior to the incident, to contact them.

  3. Hull homeless deaths among highest in UKpublished at 15:48 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2019

    The number of homeless people estimated to have died in Hull in 2017 was among the highest in the country.

    The Office for National Statistics (ONS) estimated 12 homeless people died in the city in that year.

    Deaths of homeless people were nine times higher in deprived areas of England than in the least disadvantaged areas, analysis of data has shown.

    There were an estimated 21 deaths in Manchester, 18 in Birmingham and 17 each in Bristol, Lambeth and Liverpool.

    About 2,627 homeless people died in England and Wales from 2013 to 2017.

    Deaths were recorded in 156 local authority areas in 2017, the ONS said.

    Housing charity Shelter said the figures were a "wake-up call".

    A Sheffield man who has kept a memorial to the men who died in a plane crash in 1944 says if he were to be honoured by the Queen it would be for the men who died.

    Tony Foulds was part of the fly-past on Friday at Endcliffe Park.

    It was attended by over 10,000 people.

    A campaign for the fly-past started after a chance meeting between BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker and Tony Foulds, who tends to a park memorial.

    The fly-past coincided with the 75th anniversary of the crash in which 10 US airmen died.

    There are calls for Mr Foulds to be officially honoured for his dedication to the memory of the dead airmen.

    The 15-year-old is thought to have headed to Leeds after she went missing in Wakefield.

    The teenager was last seen at about 00:20 this morning.

    She is described as being 5ft 7ins tall. She was wearing a black fur coat, blue jeans and pink trainers.

    Police are keen to hear from anyone with information on her whereabouts.

    A review of how bus services are run across South Yorkshire has been ordered by the region's elected mayor.

    The year-long process, launched by Dan Jarvis, will examine why bus usage in the county has fallen.

    Mr Jarvis said the review would also examine whether private bus companies were best placed to run services.

    Private bus operator Stagecoach said it would oppose attempts to regulate bus services in South Yorkshire.

    More than 4,000 of York and North Yorkshire's homes are standing empty and have been that way for more than six months, BBC research has found.

    Campaigners from Action on Empty Homes say local councils need help to bring properties back into use, either by spending money on them or cracking down on rogue landlords.

    The campaign says that more than 200,000 homes across the UK are classed as long-term empty - an increase of 5% on last year.

    City of York Council says it's supporting owners of long-term empty properties to bring them back into use - and says advice is available for homeowners who need it.

    A scheme to prevent flooding in East Yorkshire has reached an important milestone.

    It's hoped the £22m project will avoid the floods which caused substantial damage to parts of Hull and East Yorkshire, including Beverley (pictured), in 2007.

    A 15-tonne machine has finished drilling a section of a new water tunnel which will store excess amounts of rainfall.

    Roads in part of Rotherham have been reopened after being closed earlier due to gas fears at a property in the town, police say.

    Central Avenue, Green Road and Moor Road are all open again and people are being allowed back into their homes after being asked to leave.

    Earlier, a gas engineer had raised concerns about the safety of a property in the area.

    Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene "as a precaution".

    An online appeal to raise money to send a Bradford woman with cancer to a German clinic has raised more than £20,000 in a week.

    Amy Meskiri, 25, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017 and learned in January the cancer had spread to her liver and lungs.

    "There is no cure in the UK. A clinic in Germany may be able to treat it, but I need £100,000," said Ms Meskiri.

    Her mother Wendy Raistrick said the recent diagnosis was "devastating".

    Ms Meskiri, from Thornton, said the past two years had been a "complete nightmare" but "I just get on with it".

    A fundraising page set up seven days ago has so far raised £21,200.

    Passengers stuck on a train in West Yorkshire after damage to an overhead line have taken to Twitter to ask for more information.

    There were delays to numerous services this morning and disruption is expected to continue until at least 17:00, external.
