The plans for a site off Westerton Road in West Ardsley had originally been submitted back in 2017, but several delays to the proposals have put any final decision on the plans back until at least the summer, according to Leeds City Council.

It comes as the chair of a local pressure group, West Ardsley Action Group, claimed that years of over-development in the area had turned it into a "zombie commuter belt".

An outline planning application has been lodged, it seeks permission to build up to 299 homes on the land.

Developers claimed that the plans would bring improvements to the landscape and management of the woodland.

Walker Morris, the agent acting on behalf of the developers West Ardsley Development Consortium, declined to comment.

In a statement, police said: "The girls acted in the correct manner by leaving a situation which made them feel uncomfortable as quickly as they could, seeking help from an appropriate adult and informing police."

But the force also warned that against "speculation" which it said "can often be unhelpful and cause unnecessary distress".
