    Police in Leeds have arrested six people on suspicion of drug dealing as well as seizing a substance, believed to be heroin.

    Officers raided a house on Sutherland Terrace in Burmantofts last night, arresting four females aged 17, 19, 25 and 34 and two males aged 20 and 22 on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a class A drug.

    West Yorkshire Police say they have all been released under investigation except for two women, aged 25 and 34.

    A 23-year-old man will appear in court after police found a cannabis factory with more than 300 plants in Sheffield yesterday.

    British Transport Police say the man pictured was part of a group of seven to nine men who left the station at taxis at 22:10 and they believe he may have information about the incident.

    Cumbrian areas of the Yorkshire Dales face an unsustainable future unless they can attract, and keep, young people, according to the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority.

    A report from the authority says, external a shortage of affordable housing and jobs means there's an older population in areas like Sedbergh.

    The five-year plan includes a commitment to building at least 400 new homes in a range of sizes by the year 2024, and improve mobile and broadband coverage.

    The Park Authority says it cant achieve all of this alone and it is asking five district councils for support: South Lakeland has already backed it and Eden Council is expected to approve it today.

    A driver went the wrong way down a one way street in Leeds, "just to get a better parking space," according to police.

    The motorist is accused of ignoring the no entry sign on Templar Place and going against the flow of traffic while looking for somewhere to park.

    Writing on Twitter, West Yorkshire Police said it was an "expensive shopping day" for the driver.

    The owner of a gin distillery in North Yorkshire which has been "destroyed" in a fire says all his staff got out safely and "that's what matters".

    Firefighters have been described as "fabulous" after bringing the blaze at Mason's Yorkshire Gin factory in Aiskew, Bedale, under control.

    Carl Mason, who owns the company, said "we're still in shock" over the fire which is not thought to have resulted in any injuries.

    He said: "It's destroyed I think, but it's just a building, everyone got out safely that's what matters."

    A driver was "lucky" not to be injured after crashing off the road near Whitby yesterday, according to police.

    North Yorkshire Police say the motorist had been reported as driving erratically before the crash on the A171 at Pond Hill.

    Photographs posted on Twitter, show how the vehicle left the road "at a steep point" and went down the side of an embankment.

    Police say the driver was arrested and is now under investigation for driving while impaired by drugs.

  11. Stolen Doncaster drain covers cost council £52,000published at 14:35 British Summer Time 2 April 2019

    More than 170 roadside drain covers have been stolen from the streets of a South Yorkshire town.

    Officials at Doncaster Council said they had to replace the covers because thieves had left the gullys open posing a danger to pedestrians and road users.

    South Yorkshire Police said: "We are currently pursuing lines of inquiry and investigations are very much ongoing."

    Assistant Director of Environment, Gill Gillies, said: “We deplore the actions of individuals putting the safety of residents at risk and are working to make these areas safe.

    "We're also working with South Yorkshire Police to identify the culprit(s) and hope the appropriate action is taken."

    Doncaster Council say 173 gullies are currently missing and the estimated cost of replacing them is at least £52,000.

    Officers investigating the reported sex attack in West Park on Saturday 9 February, hope the footage "may jog someone’s memory".

    Det Ch Insp Craig Nicholson believes the man in the video was drinking in the New Griffin pub on Anlaby Road from 22:45 on Friday 8 February to 01:00 on Saturday.

    The video shows a man running along Walton Street at about 03:25, police are unsure where he went after that as he could have gone towards the park, town or down Walliker Street.

    A couple have been stabbed in Leeds city centre and five teenagers are currently in police custody.

    A 52-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman suffered stab wounds after an altercation with a group of youths on Mabgate.

    West Yorkshire Police were called at about 00:00 on Sunday and arrested five males aged 15, 16, 17, 18 and 20 and one 15-year-old girl.

    The 20-year-old man has been released under investigation but the others remain in custody as police continue to investigate.

    The victims were taken by ambulance to hospital where they are currently receiving treatment for injuries, described as serious but not life-threatening.

    An operation to bring a fire under control at a building used as a gin distillery in North Yorkshire is being scaled down.

    Firefighters from Northallerton, Ripon, Leyburn, Bedale, Stokesley and Richmond have been tackling the blaze at Masons Yorkshire Gin factory in Aiskew, Bedale, since 08:00 this morning.

    The North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service say: "Crews worked incredibly hard at the scene to stop the fire spreading and to bring it under control.

    "We are starting to scale down the incident now, and some fire engines will be leaving the scene shortly.

    "We are still likely to have some crews there for most of the day."

    Two appliances are now being used to douse hot spots inside the building.

    People in nearby properties have been warned to keep doors and windows closed.
