Read MoreA new Hull-based trawler is "good news" for fans of fish and chips, according to Princess Anne as she officially named the boat today - needing two attempts to smash a bottle of champagne against the side.
Kirkella has an on-board factory where fish can be filleted, frozen and packaged and the Princess Royal said it would "improve the quality of what the customer gets at the end of the day".
She said: "As we still do, fortunately, enjoy fish and chips and what comes out of Kirkella will end up as your fish and chips through Hull, that's good news."
She gave the royal seal of approval to the ship using a bottle of English champagne from the vineyards of Kent.
The bottle bounced off the 4,000-tonne boat on the first swing but eventually smashed after a further attempt during the ceremony in Greenwich today.
Kirkella also has a gym, cinema and en-suite berths for trawlermen and, when in full service, it's expected to land at King George Dock in Hull every four to six weeks.

The owner of a Sheffield wig shop says the NHS need to change the way it prescribes wigs to people with alopecia, a condition which leads to hair loss.
Emma Jones, the founder of Aspire Hair, says when it comes to NHS wigs, the situation is different depending on where in the UK you live.
Ms Jones, who lost her hair when she was 12, says people with alopecia in Sheffield are given a voucher for about £78.
But this cannot be put towards the cost of a more expensive wig so people have to use their own money instead.
She said: "The majority of ladies that come to see us don't tend to use their NHS prescription because the quality of wig they can get doesn't look realistic."
The charity Alopecia UK, which is based in Shipley, West Yorkshire, says the NHS doesn't take the condition seriously enough.
An NHS spokesperson said: "All patients' needs and circumstances are different and GPs and local health groups take this into account when making these decisions."
