The annual festival, which launched in 2007, grew into a three-day event attracting up to 15,000 people.

Artists such as The Charlatans, Happy Mondays, Public Image Limited, Primal Scream and Chic have performed at Myrtle Park over the years.

Café owner Catherine Lamb isn't convinced the festival will make a comeback.

She says: "I wonder whether the council can't cope with hosting such a big event and maybe that's due to the lack of public funds.

"It's very sad and I think there'll be a lot of businesses that will be really, really, angry."

  13. Hull team face funding fight for endometriosis researchpublished at 08:15 British Summer Time 24 April 2019

Researchers in Hull are trying to find money to develop a quick and easy test for a condition said to attract little funding or attention because it only affects women.

    ScanImage source, Science Photo Library

Endometriosis is when tissue similar to the lining of the womb starts to grow in other places and causes severe pain and sometimes infertility.

The condition affects one in 10 women, but at the moment the only way to diagnose it is through a type of keyhole surgery called laparoscopy.

Gynaecologist Kevin Phillips, who is based in Hull, says he believes there's a bias against investigating women's health issues.

"I've often said that I'm sure it would have a lot more funding and a lot more research and it would have got a lot better.

"But because it's unfortunately a disease that can only affect women it's often fobbed off as something that women will have to get round and get on with."

Researchers at the University of Hull are trying to find biomarkers in the blood to identify endometriosis at the "earliest stages".

But they say they need to find £200,000 to employ a second person to help with research and conduct "expensive experiments" to try and identify urine biomarkers to allow "even easier detection".
