    A 12-year-old girl was grabbed by a man while she was on her way to school in Leeds this morning, police say.

    The man approached the girl on Old Run Road at about 09:30 and the victim was carried a few yards before fighting him off and struggling free.

    The suspect is described as being white, of medium height, with short dark hair and a beard.

    He was wearing a blue hoodie, a black t-shirt and beige trousers.

    Det Insp James Entwistle said: "This incident is clearly one that causes us serious concerns and we are carrying out extensive inquiries to identify the man involved.

    “We are liaising with our colleagues in the neighbourhood policing team and with the local Safer Schools officer to support their reassurance work with the girl’s school and the wider community," he added.

    North Yorkshire Fire Service crews are at the scene of yet another moor fire - this time in the Bolton Abbey area.

    Four hectares of Barden Moor are currently affected.

    Three robbers threatened staff with axes before making off with cash and cigarettes in a raid at a shop in West Yorkshire during the bank holiday.

    The men targeted the Co-op store in School Street, Denholme, at about 16:50 on Monday before fleeing in a vehicle towards Queensbury.

    Det Insp Mark Taylor said: "This must have been a frightening experience for all those in the shop at the time.

    "We'd like to speak to anyone who saw any suspicious activity around the store at around the time of the offence, as well as anyone who may have details of the vehicle which was used."

    Officers are currently establishing whether this incident is linked to other robberies across Bradford between February and April.

    The Siemens Mobility development, at Goole close to junction 36 of the M62, could initially begin operating in 2023, creating about 700 jobs, the firm says.

    Plans for the project were first unveiled in 2018, with a £1.5bn contract signed to build new trains as part of London Underground's "Deep Tube" upgrade programme.

    A vigil is due to be held in Bradford later in remembrance of the hundreds of people killed in a wave of bombings in Sri Lanka at the weekend.

    The death toll from the attacks on churches and hotels has risen to 321 with about 500 people wounded, police said.

    A state of emergency is in effect in Sri Lanka to prevent further attacks.

    The Lord Mayor of Bradford and leaders from different faiths are expected to attend the commemoration event which is due to start at about 17:00 outside Bradford City Hall.

    A tall ship had to be rescued by lifeboat crews, after it suffered mechanical failure.

    Hartlepool RNLI volunteers were called to assist colleagues from Whitby on Monday afternoon after the 120-ton sail training vessel reported it was in distress.

    The 35m craft with 15 people on board was towed into Hartlepool docks.

    Two of its crew suffered minor injuries, and they were transferred by the Hartlepool lifeboat to the Ferry Road lifeboat station where paramedics assessed their injuries before they were sent to hospital by ambulance.

    Two men who died after the car they were in crashed into a tree in Hull have been named by police.

    Rikki-Lee Woods, 26, and Glen Hilton, 27, both from Hull, were killed in the collision involving a black BMW on Cavendish Road at about 07:00 yesterday.

    Their families are being supported by officers, according to Humberside Police.

    Anyone who saw what happened is being asked to get in touch with police.

    The road is currently closed while police retrieve the lorry.

    The driver suffered minor injuries and is being dealt with by officers, police say.

    A man wanted on warrant for failing to appear in court was arrested after responding on social media to a police appeal about himself.

    Brett Painter, formerly of Hessle Road, responded to the appeal on Facebook made by police after he failed to appear before Hull Magistrates' Court.

    Humberside Police tracked him down to Leeds and he was arrested and sentenced for assault and failure to surrender "as a direct result of a social media post".

    The 25-year-old, now of Clarendon Road in Leeds, was sentenced to a 12-month community order.

    He must complete 120 hours of unpaid work, pay £300 costs, an £85 victim surcharge and £75 compensation.

    Two women have been seriously hurt in a two-vehicle crash in Leeds.

    A black Nissan Juke and white Citroen collided at the junction of Wetherby Road and Carr Lane in Scarcroft at about 11:00 on 21 Sunday.

    Two women, both in their 80s, remain in hospital.

    Police are appealing for anyone with information or dash-cam footage to get in touch.

    Bingley's Music Live festival won't be held this year after running at a loss in 2018, it's been confirmed.

    The annual festival, which launched in 2007, grew into a three-day event attracting up to 15,000 people.

    Artists such as The Charlatans, Happy Mondays, Public Image Limited, Primal Scream and Chic have all graced the stage at Myrtle Park over the years.

    According to Bradford Council, the festival "will be missed" and the authority's given £20,000 to the Bingley Chamber of Trade to run other events this year.

    Steve Hartley, from the council, said: "In these difficult financial times for councils up and down the country, we cannot afford to lose money on the event.

    "Taking a year out will allow for the delivery in 2020 of a well-planned, sustainable festival that provides a great experience for visitors to and residents of the district."

    Crews were called to the West Yorkshire spa town on Saturday, where they fought fires in two areas of the moor covering 25,000 sq m.

    Three men were arrested on suspicion of arson in relation to the smaller of the two fires and one of them has now been charged, West Yorkshire Police said.

    The other two were released pending further investigations.

    Fire crews remained at the scene damping down on Monday evening as flames still smouldered on the dry land.

    Members of the public are being warned to stay off the moor while operations are in place.

    Firefighters from the Tyne and Wear service have joined colleagues in West Yorkshire damping down after a blaze at Marsden Moor.

    The fire started in Sunday and was "likely" to have been caused by a barbecue at Easter Gate, the National Trust said.
