    Investigations are continuing this morning after a man was found dead at a house in Hull.

    Detectives went to a property in Beverley Road after a call to police at about 15:00 yesterday.

    Det Ch Insp Phil Gadd said the man's body was found inside the address.

    His family has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers, he added.

    Officers are in the early stages of investigating how the man had died, said Det Ch Insp Gadd.

    Firefighters are currently dealing with a large blaze at a building in Halifax.

    Crews were called out to Square Road in the early hours of this morning after reports of a fire at a four-storey building.

    There are currently six engines and two aerial ladders involved in tackling the fire.

    The road is closed at Charles Street and Square Road opposite the Central Library.

    There are no reports of any injuries at the moment.

    A woman with paranoid schizophrenia who stabbed one man and tried to attack another with a kitchen knife while shouting "kill, kill, kill" has been ordered to be detained in hospital.

    Ayaan Ali, 29, stabbed shopper Andrew Froggatt in the centre of Barnsley and also tried to attack window cleaner Mark Watson before he fought her off with a bucket on 8 September.

    Following a trial at Sheffield Crown Court, Ali, of Isleworth, west London, was found guilty of attempted murder, possessing an offensive weapon and affray.

    Judge Peter Kelson QC ordered her to be detained indefinitely in hospital.

    An army veteran from East Yorkshire has been recognised by the Prime Minster after setting up a worldwide network of breakfast clubs to bring together thousands of military personnel past and present.

    Dereck Hardman (pictured, left) set up the first Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club in Hull in 2007 and since then the idea has grown, with more than 300 clubs around the world.

    Mr Hardman, from Ganstead, has now received a Points of Light award in recognition of his efforts.

    In a letter to Mr Hardman, Theresa May said he should feel "truly proud".

    Conservative MP for Beverley and Holderness Graham Stuart (pictured, right) is set to present him with the award on Saturday.

    Mr Hardman said: "I am particularly proud that this movement was started here in Hull, I hope my award inspires other veterans to come forward and set up breakfast clubs in their towns. I am here to help."

    A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a stabbing incident in Leeds this afternoon.

    The man in his 40s was injured on Nowell Lane in the Harehills area of the city at about 16:00.

    A 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of affray.

    The adjoining Harehills Lane is closed as police inquiries near the scene continue.

    Police have released CCTV of two men they want to speak to after a lit cigarette was put in the fuel tank of a police patrol car in a "failed attempt" to set it on fire.

    British Transport Police said one of its vehicles was targeted outside Hull Paragon Interchange on 1 April.

    The force said two men were seen opening the fuel cap of the vehicle and putting a lit cigarette inside.

    A force representative said: "Fortunately, the car has a diesel engine and did not catch fire."

    The force has asked for anyone who recognises the men in the images to come forward.

    The RSPCA is appealing for help to find the owner of a dog which was "thrown from a car" near Bradford.

    The charity's Halifax, Huddersfield and Bradford & District branch said the animal (pictured) was brought in last week.

    It said a member of the public brought her in after seeing her thrown from a car in the Holme Wood area.

    It's thought the female dog, which has been named Beatrix, is stolen and not from Bradford.

    She's currently going through vet treatment following her ordeal, a spokesperson from the RSPCA said.

    It's hoped Beatrix's owners will come forward to collect her, but if no owner is found she will be put up for rehoming.

    A man has appeared in court charged with possession of an imitation sub-machine gun and a samurai sword.

    Michael Zriny was arrested after police were called to an address in Melrose Street following reports of a man holding a weapon.

    Humberside Police say the incident on 23 May was brought to a safe conclusion and no-one was hurt.

    The 48-year-old, of Melrose Street, has been charged with possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, threatening a person with an offensive weapon, threats to kill, and criminal damage.

    He appeared at Beverley Magistrates' Court on Saturday where he was remanded in to custody ahead of an appearance before magistrates in Hull on Thursday.

    New BBC and HBO drama Gentleman Jack has had an immediate effect in attracting tourists from “over the pond” Calderdale Council bosses say.

    The series, starring Suranne Jones (pictured), is based on the diaries of Halifax-born Anne Lister, who has been described as "the first modern lesbian".

    Calderdale Council’s Chief Executive Robin Tuddenham described the show's success "a game changer” with visitor numbers to Shibden Hall, where Lister lived from 1791 to 1840, up 700 per cent “and counting”.

    Mr Tuddenham said: "The impact has been immediate with tourists arriving from across the pond, and I understand people almost fighting over places on the Anne Lister heritage walks!"

    Police are investigating after 22 vehicles were damaged during a fire at industrial units on the outskirts of York.

    The blaze, which broke out at about 21:00 on Saturday, damaged property and vehicles at a number of businesses near to the Highwayman Cafe (pictured) on the A64.

    North Yorkshire Police say they are working with colleagues at North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service to determine the cause and whether or not it was suspicious.

    It means new venues won't be able to open as they won't be given licences to operate by the council, the authority said.

    It follows concerns raised during a consultation looking into where sex establishments such as strip and lap dancing clubs could operate.

    The council is expected to agree the new policy at a meeting next month.

    Three teenage boys have been arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with a fire at a primary school in Harrogate.

    Fire crews were called to Saltergate Community School, on Newby Crescent, yesterday evening.

    Two boys, aged 13 and 15, were arrested a short time later, North Yorkshire Police confirmed.

    They have been released under investigation.

    A third boy, who is 16 years old, was arrested in the early hours of this morning and also released under investigation.

    North Yorkshire Police continue to appeal to people who might have information to come forward.

    Police have released CCTV images of a number of people they want to speak to after a gin bar in Beverley was burgled twice in one weekend.

    The bar on North Bar Within was first raided between 01:20 and 09:40 on 18 May, with a man captured on camera in the area, wearing a tweed hat and smoking a cigarette.

    It was raided again, overnight between 19 and 20 May, when two men wearing balaclavas were captured on CCTV.

    Humberside Police is appealing for information after cash was stolen from the bar during both incidents.
