    The M1 has fully reopened after a closure due to concerns for the safety of a person near Wakefield.

    The northbound carriageway of the motorway was closed for a short time following a "police-led" incident on Bramley Lane (pictured below), which goes over the M1.

    Motorists were warned to expect delays of than 30 minutes as a result.

    A fitness trainer from York who had a heart attack without realising it says she wants to raise better awareness about the condition which caused it.

    Sue Knowles was out running two weeks ago when she felt unwell, but didn't recognise her symptoms as a heart attack.

    She was later diagnosed with a condition called Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection which mainly affects women experiencing hormonal changes.

    She says: "I was going through the menopause and had started HRT treatment just six days before.

    "Had I known about the condition, I would have thought, 'Just a minute, maybe it is a heart attack' - instead of just dismissing it."

    A cyclist remains in hospital a week after he was involved in a serious collision with a car in Hull.

    The man was injured in a collision with a grey Volvo at the junction of Vermont Street and Beverley Road at about 13:00 on Wednesday 22 May.

    He remains in hospital receiving treatment for his injuries and Humberside Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

    A fundraising campaign's been launched to raise £1,000 to install CCTV at a school in Harrogate where a fire broke out on Monday.

    North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue tackled a fire at Saltergate Community Primary School after being called at about 20:25.

    Firefighters later said it was believed the blaze had been started "deliberately".

    Those behind the fundraising say it's the second attack at the school in a year.

    Police investigating a serious assault in Goole, which left one person in hospital, want to hear from anyone who saw a man and woman pushing a pram near to where the incident took place.

    Officers are appealing for help after a man was knocked unconscious during an incident on Pasture Road, opposite the junction with Fifth Avenue.

    Humberside Police want to hear from anyone who was in the area at about 20:20 yesterday evening.

    Motorists have been warned to expect delays of more than 30 minutes as a result of a police incident on the M1 near Wakefield.

    Highways England say the northbound carriageway of the motorway is expected to be closed between junctions 38 for Haigh and 39 for Durkar and Wakefield for a "significant amount of time".

    Drivers are being advised to consider using the M18 and the A1(M) instead, although further delays are expected on local diversion routes.

    After discussions, the Argentine and the Championship club have decided to exercise the second-year option in the contract he signed in June 2018.

    The 63-year-old led Leeds to a third-placed finish in 2018-19, but they lost to Derby in the play-off semi-finals.

    Chairman Andrea Radrizzani said Bielsa had "unfinished business" with Leeds, who have not played in the Premier League since 2004.

    The northbound carriageway of the motorway is expected to be closed between junctions 38 for Haigh and 39 for Durkar and Wakefield for a "significant amount of time".

    Both carriageways were initially closed but the southbound side has now reopened, according to West Yorkshire Police.

    Police have released CCTV images after two burglars forced their way into a house in Bridlington, threatened the occupiers with weapons and demanded money and jewellery.

    Officers want to identify the two men in connection with the incident which happened on Cleeton Way at about 01:00 on Friday 10 May.

    A quantity of gold was taken during the robbery, including a belcher chain, a ragdoll pendant and a bracelet with about 20 charms attached.

    Both men are described as white, one was clean-shaven, wearing a black beanie and a dark coloured hooded coat, while the other had stubble on his face and tear tattoos under both eyes.

    Humberside Police say the occupants were shaken but unharmed during the burglary.

    Plans to create more than 130 special needs places in schools in Bradford have gone out to public consultation.

    The district needs 354 extra places to meet rising demand.

    The latest proposals follow a long-running campaign by the Bradford Schools Forum which said there was "inadequate government funding for specialist places".

    The forum claims there is a "significant gap" between the specialist places available in Bradford and what's actually needed.

    A bid for a new special free school in the district was recently rejected by the Department for Education.

    A mother charged with the murder of her two teenage sons at a house in Sheffield has been remanded in custody.

    Sarah Barrass, 34, is accused of murdering 14-year-old Blake Barrass and Tristan Barrass, 13, in the Shiregreen area on Friday.

    She appeared at Sheffield Crown Court alongside Brandon Machin, 38, who also faces two counts of murder.

    Ms Barrass is also charged with three counts of attempted murder against two other children.

    Judge Roger Thomas QC fixed a trial date for 12 November and said Ms Barrass and Mr Machin would next appear on 21 June.

  14. Man and woman charged following caravan park police chasepublished at 10:22 British Summer Time 28 May 2019

    A man and a woman have been charged over a disturbance at a caravan park and subsequent police chase in North Yorkshire, police have confirmed.

    The disturbance happened at the Crow's Nest park near Filey on Sunday night and saw two men sustain cuts, one to the head the other to the leg.

    A man and woman were arrested but fled the scene, leading to a police chase along the A64.

    A number of attempts to stop the car were made, before the car was stopped at Scampston and the pair were detained.

    Police say a 29-year-old man from Wetherby has been charged with a number of offences including assault, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

    He's due to appear before York Magistrates' Court later.

    A 31-year-old woman from Leeds has been charged with four counts of assault by beating and is due in court in Scarborough next month.

    Police have appealed for witnesses and dash-cam footage.

    A man who died after he was hit by a tram in Sheffield last week has been named as 37-year-old Martin Rigg.

    Mr Rigg was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by the tram on West Street at about 22:20 on Wednesday.

    He died on Sunday morning.

    Police are still looking for two men who were seen having an argument with Mr Rigg shortly before he was hit.

    Anyone with information about what happened is being asked to contact police.

    A fresh appeal for information has been issued after a man from Leeds was found dead on a beach in Lincolnshire earlier this month.

    Gary Simpson, 49, was found on the beach at Cleethorpes on Friday 17 May.

    Mr Simpson was last seen at his rented accommodation on Strathmore Court in New Waltham at about midnight on Wednesday 15 May.

    Police say they are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen Mr Simpson between these times.

    He was last wearing a dark blue Adidas t-shirt, dark blue jeans and black Adidas Samba trainers with three white stripes on each side.

    He may have also been wearing a khaki green Nike tracksuit jacket with dark patches on the shoulders.

    Specialist officers are supporting Mr Simpson’s family, according to Humberside Police.

    There were strange scenes in the skies above Scarborough over the Bank Holiday weekend with not only flying pigs but other weird and wonderful things taking to the air.

    It was all part of the Scarborough Castle Kite Festival, which saw expert kite flyers dazzling local residents with their skills as they created a real spectacle on the headland.

    Two people have been taken to hospital after a crash on the A1 in South Yorkshire this morning.

    Emergency services were called to the scene just after Junction 38 at about 06:40.

    The road has been closed northbound since as the recovery takes place.

    Travel time from Sheffield to London will be longer this week as major work takes place on the route.

    A revamp of facilities at Market Harborough means a section of the Midland Main Line will be closed.

    This will increase journey times to the capital as trains avoid the closed section of track, according to operators East Midlands Trains, external.

    The company's website shows direct journeys taking two hours and 40 minutes, about 30 minutes slower than usual.

    The disruption is expected to last until Sunday.
