Her family are hoping to raise £30,000 to build a downstairs bedroom and bathroom for Emma and free up the living room.
They've currently raised half the money towards paying for the extension.
A spokesperson for Rotherham Council said it is supporting the family and, if planning permission for the building work was granted, they may be eligible for grant funding to help cover the costs.

Residents of a former mining estate in Leeds remain in limbo after councillors deferred a planning application to demolish their homes.
The owners of the estate in Oulton, near Rothwell, want to knock down the current houses and replace them with modern homes.
But residents say it amounts to "social cleansing" and have campaigned for their houses to stay despite the developers saying they need to be replaced.
However, at a planning meeting on Thursday no decision was made after the planning committee in Leeds said it wants more information into the design of the proposed new homes before reaching a conclusion.
The mother of a woman who died after a collision on the same rollercoaster from which a young boy fell on Thursday has said the ride should have been shut down years ago.
A seven-year-old boy suffered serious injuries after apparently falling from the Twister rollercoaster at Lightwater Valley, near Ripon.
It follows the death in June 2001 of Gemma Savage, from Wath upon Dearne, who died when two of the cars on the same ride collided.
Gemma's mother, Linda, says "lessons haven't been learned" following her daughter's death.
She says she didn't know the ride was still in operation.
"It should have been shut down permanently," she said.
"It’s about time the whole place was closed down."
The boy injured in yesterday's incident is said to have fallen from the Twister rollercoaster at about 11:30.
He remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
“Our thoughts go out to this little boy and his family", Ms Savage says.
"It’s unbelievable that this has happened on the same ride, 18 years on. Why wasn’t the ride shut down?
"It’s incredibly distressing for us in the run up to the anniversary of Gemma’s death."
