    Defender Phil Jagielka has returned to Sheffield United after his Everton contract ended - 12 years after leaving the Blades for Goodison Park.

    The former England centre-back, 36, has signed a one-year deal with the newly promoted Premier League side.

    After joining Everton for £4m in 2007, Jagielka scored 19 goals in 386 appearances for the Toffees and had captained the club since 2013.

    "It's nice to put the red and white shirt on again," he said.

    Jagielka spent seven years at the start of his career at Sheffield United, winning promotion to the Premier League in 2006 before leaving after relegation the following season.

    He made 40 appearances for England between 2008 and 2016, scoring three goals.

    A trio of roads in East Yorkshire have been highlighted as accident hotspots.

    A new report from the Road Safety Foundation says Hull's Anlaby and Boothferry Roads, as well as the A165 in East Yorkshire, were high risk routes.

    Brian Lawton, from the charity, said: "We're calling for extra investment from government in terms of improving road safety."

    Mr Lawton said the the A161 between Ealand and Goole is an example of where road safety has been "substantially improved" as a result of investment, with the number of crashes decreasing over the past six years.

    Yorkshire cricketer Tom Kohler-Cadmore has been fined £2,000 for bringing the game into disrepute.

    Kohler-Cadmore, along with Nottinghamshire's Joe Clarke, was named as a member of a WhatsApp group, which came to light during the trial of former team-mate Alex Hepburn.

    Hepburn was found guilty of rape in April and jailed for five years. Neither Kohler-Cadmore or Clarke were charged with any criminal offence.

    Additionally, there is no suggestion of any criminal wrongdoing by the pair.

    At an independent Cricket Discipline Commission hearing on Thursday, the pair admitted the disrepute charge brought against them by the England and Wales Cricket Board.

    Kohler-Cadmore said: "I deeply regret my involvement in the WhatsApp group in 2017.

    "I fully accept the subsequent punishment and I now want to move forward with the rest of my career and life in a positive manner."

    A Yorkshire MP has made an emotional plea for the laws on assisted dying to be changed on the eighth anniversary of his father's suicide.

    Labour's Sheffield Central MP, Paul Blomfield told MPs in the Commons his father made the decision to end his life shortly after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.

    The MP urged ministers to take action to help those in similar situations.

    He said the existing law encouraged people to take their lives sooner and not tell loved ones of their plans.

    Speaking yesterday during a debate on assisted dying, Mr Blomfield said: "It is by a coincidence to the day the eighth anniversary of my receiving a phone call here in Westminster that my father had been found dead in his garage.

    "His experience shows how the existing law, not simply fails people, but leads to premature deaths."

    Councillor Mohammed Mahroof asked for the figures at a full council meeting and said numbers had gone up almost to the size of a small secondary or a large primary school

    He said: “People are getting concerned, quite rightly. I think it’s increasing because some people aren’t getting their child into the schools they want to because for the catchment they are in, the schools are full.

    Councillor Mahroof said the national average increase in home schooling was 40%, compared to 100% in Sheffield.

    A 14-year-old boy has been charged with two counts of burglary following separate break-ins at a school in Hull.

    Police say the teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged in connection with two incidents at a school in the Boulevard area of the city on 9 and 18 June.

    He's also been charged with an attempted burglary in connection with an incident at the same school overnight between 10 and 11 June.

    He faces further two further burglary charges and a charge of criminal damage, police say.

    The teenager appeared at Hull Youth Court yesterday.

    Police are questioning two men who turned up at hospital in Leeds after a stolen car crashed into a skip lorry in the city.

    A black Mercedes was abandoned following the collision in Pepper Road in Hunslet at about midday, according to police.

    The car's occupants were later picked up by another vehicle before being taken for treatment.

    Two men were then found to have attended hospital with injuries believed to be from the collision. Their injuries are not thought to be serious.

    Inquiries into the incident are continuing, police say.

    Crews were called to Main Road in Thorngumbald just before 08:00 this morning and used a crowbar and other tools to release the baby ducks uninjured.

    They were safely returned to their mum who was "understandably a bit quackers", according to Humberside Fire and Rescue Service.

    A Sheffield MP has made an emotional plea on the anniversary of his father's suicide for the laws on assisted dying to be changed.

    Labour's Paul Blomfield told MPs that his father made the decision to end his life shortly after receiving the news he had terminal lung cancer.

    He was speaking in the Commons on the eighth anniversary of his 87-year-old father's death.

    He said: "I think his experience shows how the existing [assisted dying] law not only fails people, but leads to premature deaths.

    "He had always said that he would rather end things than face a degrading death."

    According to the law as it presently stands, anyone who assists someone to die is liable to up to 14 years in prison.

    Campaign groups argue that helps protect the weak and vulnerable from being exploited or coerced.

    Staff at a hospice in York say they are "devastated" after one of their vans was stolen less than a month after thieves had taken another vehicle.

    The theft of a large box van from St Leonard's Hospice comes just three weeks after the hospice's Ford Transit van was stolen.

    Staff say: "We are absolutely devastated. This will have a direct impact on raising funds for patient care."

    St Leonard's Hospice says it hasn’t had chance to replace the first stolen vehicle yet, although a local company has loaned it a replacement until they do.

    It's now seeking secure parking for its remaining vehicles.
