    A man and a woman are being questioned after an alleged assault which left one man with serious head injuries in Hull over the weekend.

    The victim was found on Buckingham Street at about 22:30 on Saturday night and later taken to hospital.

    Humberside Police said the two people arrested remain in custody.

    A new search has been carried out in the Highlands' remote Fisherfield Forest for a hillwalker who disappeared two months ago.

    Martin Rhodes, 46, from Halifax, was last seen near Kinlochewe in Wester Ross on 1 May.

    He failed to return from a walk in the Fisherfield Munros.

    Twenty-six members of Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team and a dog from Search and Rescue Dog Association made the search on Sunday.

    A spokesman for Dundonnell MRT said: "Sadly, no new evidence of Martin's whereabouts was discovered and he remains untraced at this time."

  4. Poorly pig pulls plug on Yorkshire show classespublished at 09:35 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Organisers of the Great Yorkshire Show have cancelled all pig classes after it was confirmed that a pig became ill at a recent show.

    Bosses say its not a decision they've taken lightly and its been done as a precaution as animal welfare is of paramount importance.

    They say the move to stop the classes eliminates any potential risk.

    The Great Yorkshire Show runs from 9 to 11 July.

    A man has been charged with murder after a man was found dead in a Bradford road.

    Mohammed Feazan Ayaz, 20, was found in Saffron Drive, in Allerton, on Monday morning.

    Suleman Khan, 20, of Sandford Road, has been charged with his murder.

    Shaoib Shafiq, 19, of Gladstone Street, Bradford, has been charged with assisting an offender alongside a 16-year-old boy from Bradford, who cannot be named due to his age.

    All three are due to appear before Bradford Magistrates' Court later.

    Two other people, a 26-year-old and a 30-year-old man, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody.

    Two women aged 21 and 28, who have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, are also in custody.

    A man who had been missing from home for nearly a month has been found by a dog walker in woodland over the weekend.

    Minod Monger was found two miles from his Parson Cross home in a wooded area just off Horbury Lane.

    Drones and dog teams were used to search for the 23-year-old after he went missing on 10 June.

    South Yorkshire Police said a paramedic called to the scene had recognised Mr Monger and alerted police.

  10. Arrest after motorcyclist dies in Whitby crashpublished at 08:11 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    A motorcyclist has died and a man has been arrested following a crash near Whitby yesterday.

    The crash happened on the A171, near Hawsker, at about 07:15 on Sunday.

    It involved a Ducati motorbike and a VW Transporter van, with the rider of the motorbike dying at the scene.

    The man, who was in his 60s, was from the Driffield area.

    The driver of the VW van, a 38-year-old man, was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody.

    North Yorkshire Police has appealed for any witnesses or anyone who may have dash cam footage of the collision to come forward.

    A new project that helps keep Bradford clean has been praised.

    The project, which is ran by Bradford BID (Business Improvement District), works with local cleaners to wash Bradford's streets, removes dirt such as chewing gum and hang up flower baskets.

    Tony Beddoes, who runs a local cleaning company, said: "We get a lot of positive vibes about it, shop owners coming out (and) thanking us, everyone just loves it."

    This video was created as part of We Are Bradford - a BBC project with the people of the city to tell the stories which matter to them.

    Four people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was found dead in a street in Bradford.

    Mohammed Feazan Ayaz, 20, was found in Saffron Drive, in Allerton, last Monday morning.

    Three men, aged 30, 20, 19 and a 16-year-old boy remain in custody, West Yorkshire Police said.

    The force said a 34-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident had been released with no further action.

    Officers are continuing inquires at a number of locations across the city.

    TV presenter Helen Skelton and other swimmers have completed a charity crossing of the Humber Estuary.

    The BBC Countryfile presenter was one of a group raising money for the Humber Rescue lifeboat charity.

    The annual event sees swimmers battle against the strong currents to complete the 2.22km (1.36 mile) course.

    The TV presenter, who previously trekked to the South Pole and kayaked down the Amazon, said it was fun but tougher than expected.

    "I can't believe how quickly the current takes you away," she said.

    Tributes have been paid to a "true gentleman and friend" who died after his scooter was involved in a crash with a van in Sheffield on Friday.

    Ian Hudson, 66, died in hospital after the collision involving his Lambretta scooter and a van on the A57 Manchester Road on Friday.

    His family has appealed for witnesses to the collision to contact South Yorkshire Police.

    They said they were trying to come to terms with what happened.

    "He was a friendly and outgoing man with many friends across Sheffield," they said.

    "He had ridden scooters and motorbikes for many years, [and] would regularly drive out to the Peak District with friends."

    He was an active member of Sheffield Aces Scooter Club, who also paid tribute to him, calling him "a true gentleman and friend".

  17. Two arrested after girl, 12, dies in M61 hit-and-runpublished at 06:30 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Two people from West Yorkshire have been arrested over the hit-and-run killing of a 12-year-old girl on a motorway.

    The victim, named by police as Sana Patel, of Blackburn, died at the scene on the M61 in Lancashire.

    She was a passenger in a Nissan Qashqai, which was involved in a collision with a Vauxhall Corsa on Saturday at about 22:45.

    The crash happened on the northbound carriageway between junction eight and Bolton West/Rivington services.

    Lancashire Police said a 23-year-old woman from Mirfield, West Yorkshire, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

    A 28-year-old man from Dewsbury was also detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident. Both remain in custody.
