    Police are becoming "increasingly concerned" about a missing man from Dewsbury who has links to the North Yorkshire area.

    Alex Starikov, 32, was last seen by his family on Tuesday 2 July and was wearing a blue short-sleeved T-shirt, blue trousers with patches across the knees and carrying a large backpack.

    Mr Starikov, who is 5ft 10ins, of stocky build and with short brown hair and grey eyes, was reported missing on Saturday 6 July.

    Det Insp Mark Catney said: "We are growing increasingly concerned for Alex and would urgently appeal for anyone who believes they have seen Alex to contact officers."

    An allegation that an Uber driver spat at a motorist in York has prompted a police investigation.

    Police are investigating an alleged assault involving a man driving a silver Skoda, who was believed to be working for the popular taxi-hailing app.

    He is accused of blocking Fifth Avenue to oncoming vehicles before spitting at a woman driving a red vehicle along the road at about 10:00 on Friday 28 June.

    Police are trying to track down a driver who could be a potential witness and was behind the woman’s vehicle at the time, initially getting out of their vehicle to speak with the male driver.

    Plans for a ski and sport attraction to rival the best in the world – bringing 400 new jobs and a million new visitors to Sheffield – took a step closer today.

    Council chiefs have agreed a 150-year lease with Extreme Destinations to create an internationally-recognised sport and leisure destination at Parkwood Springs with work beginning as early as next year.

    The site will include a modern ski slope, mountain biking trails, a hub building with shops, bars and restaurants as well as visitor accommodation, alongside a major international operator.

    The initial phases could boost Sheffield’s economy with investment of up to £40m, and once the entire 21-hectare site is complete that could eventually top £60m.

    The development will be on the former Sheffield Ski Village site, which opened in 1988 but closed in 2012 following a series of fires.

    A bus driver was hit by a car while stood on the kerb in the Bramley area of Leeds.

    Initial reports suggested the car struck the bus, but First West Yorkshire confirmed the driver was stood next to his vehicle at the time.

    It happened at about 12:30 on Broad Lane near the Nisa store.

    A man in his 80s was punched in the face three times before being pushed to the ground in what police have described as a "vicious and unprovoked assault".

    The incident happened at about 12:20 on 21 June in the Baildon Close area of Acomb, in York.

    North Yorkshire Police aid the man suffered cuts and bruises to his face, which required hospital treatment.

    Officers investigating the incident have released a picture of a man they would like to speak to (above) and have asked for anyone who recognises the man to come forward.

    A mother and son have gone on trial accused of murdering a man found dead near a popular walking route.

    Carol and Scott Dawson are said to have attacked 48-year-old Gary Dean with an air rifle, rocks and branches in a "brutal assault" before dumping his body.

    Mr Dean, from Silkstone Common, Barnsley, was found dead on in a wooded area near his home on 6 September 2018.

    Opening the case at Sheffield Crown Court, prosecutor Peter Moulson QC said Mr Dean had tried to escape by crawling along a ditch next to the Trans Pennine Trail.

    The jury heard that prior to his death Mr Dean had been involved in a long running feud with Carol and Scott Dawson about the use of an area of land the owned by the Dawsons.

    Scott James Dawson, 41, of Allotts Court, Barnsley, and Carol Dawson, 72, of Stonewood Grove, Barnsley, both deny murder.

    The trial continues.

    A sex shop in York city centre has applied to have its licence renewed.

    The council licensing panel will be asked to grant a further 12 month sex establishment permit for The Adult Shop on Gillygate.

    The store has been open for more than 20 years – since 1997 – and a report says City of York Council has not received a complaint about the shop during that time.

    In 2003, it was given permission to open on Sundays despite a row with some members of the Salvation Army who worship at the group’s Gillygate Citadel, opposite the shop.

    A pedestrian has been seriously hurt after she was hit by a car in Bradford.

    The woman, in her 30s, was walking on Knowles Lane at about 19:45 on Monday, when she was hit by a black Ford Focus.

    West Yorkshire Police said the Ford was travelling towards Tong Street at the time of the collision.

    the woman's injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

    Police have appealed for anyone with information or dash cam footage to get in touch.

    Whitby residents have objected to plans to build modern apartments to replace cottages that were lost in a devastating landslip.

    Properties on Aelfleda Terrace were left unsafe following a landslide in the middle of the night in November 2012.

    An application has now been made to Scarborough Council to build apartments on the site of five homes which have been pulled down.

    A structural engineer’s report submitted by the applicant says the ground, in the shadow of Whitby Abbey, is now stable to built upon.

    More than 50 people have objected to the plans, with a number upset about the “modern” glass and timber structure, claiming its not in keeping with the character of the area.

    A "spooked" bull at the Great Yorkshire Show left his handler with head injuries after dragging him across the show ring.

    The Limousin bull had been judged and was being walked out of the ring at about 09:45 when he became upset and dragged his handler back into the ring.

    Organisers confirmed the handler required medical attention in the ring and has now been transferred to Harrogate District Hospital with what are thought to be non-serious head injuries.

    The Calder Valley rescue team had to take a hands-on approach to help an injured man who had fallen on the Pennine Way on Monday evening.

    The casualty sustained a lower leg injury at Gaddings Dam near Todmorden at about 17:30.

    The team carried him on a stretcher for a mile, where a rescue vehicle was waiting.
