    Two men have been charged with terrorism offences and will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court later.

    Police said Mohammed Shehzad, 21, and Safaan Ali, 18, both from Bradford, were arrested on Tuesday.

    Mr Shehzad, of Upper Woodlands Road, is charged with disseminating terrorist publications.

    Mr Ali, of Fairbank Road, faces eight counts of possessing material likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.

    The 2019 Tour de Yorkshire boosted the region's economy by £60m, according to figures by Welcome to Yorkshire.

    The tourism board says nearly two million people lined the routes for this year's event, with 28m people watching across the work on TV.

    The economic figures, which is almost £40m lower than last year, were collected by an independent research company and compiled by Leeds Beckett University.

    A man in his 70s is in hospital in a serious condition after a car crash in West Yorkshire.

    He suffered serious injuries after the red Toyota Hilux he was driving collided with a white Ford Transit pickup van.

    The other driver also suffered serious injuries in the collision which happened on Arthington Lane, in Pool in Wharfedale, on Monday.

    West Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

    Almost 200 Sheffield trees which were due to be felled have been saved after being reassessed, prompting campaigners to say "we told you so".

    A survey of 309 street trees found 191 could be retained on a longer term basis, a new report reveals.

    Sheffield Tree Action Groups said it was "great news but no surprise" that almost two-thirds of those trees could be saved.

    The council said a further 26 trees require "bespoke solutions" but could be kept, one tree will be removed and replaces, and a further 91 trees are still to be investigated.

    Two people have been arrested in connection with an alleged homophobic attack in Hull.

    An 18-year-old woman was taken to hospital with facial injuries after being assaulted in Swanage Walk on Monday.

    A 21-year-old woman from Hull has been arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm and possessing a controlled drug.

    A 16-year-old girl, who is also from Hull, has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

    Humberside Police say it is treating the attack as a hate crime.

    A man has been caught driving his dad's car through Bradford at almost four times the speed limit.

    Police officers said they were "fuming" to see the driver of the Audi RS3 doing 110mph on Leeds Road.

    The road has a 30mph speed limit, West Yorkshire traffic officer PC Pearson said.

    The ex-Blades defender, 51, returned as boss in 2016 and has led United to two promotions in three years.

    He was named LMA manager of the year after they returned to the top flight after a 12-year absence.

    "Chris signing a new contract underpins everything we are attempting to do," said chief executive Stephen Bettis.

    "He's been the catalyst for our success over the past few years."

    Art lovers will be able to experience Michelangelo's genius up close at an exhibition in Hull.

    Hull Minster is to host Michelangelo - A Different View, which allows visitors to view the Florentine master's Sistine Chapel frescos at ground level.

    The exhibition, which starts in October, has been created from high-resolution versions of photographs of the frescos taken in the 1990s.

    Its creators said they wanted to bring the frescos "down from the ceiling".

    Police say they are growing "very concerned" for the safety of a man who went missing after failing to return to a coach he was travelling on.

    Henry "Davey" Fullaton, 68, was travelling from Scotland to Hull ferry port when the coach stopped for a break at Wetherby Services at about 16:30 yesterday.

    He left his medication, phone, passport and bag on the coach.

    Possible sightings were made at junction 41 near the A1 with searches being focused on that area.

    He is described as being white, about 5ft 7ins, of medium build, brown hair, unshaven with stubble and wearing glasses and a grey top.

    Anybody who may have seen Henry, or offered him a lift, is asked to call 999.

    Bradford council's children's services could take up to three years to improve from 'inadequate' to 'good', council bosses have said today.

    The department was judged inadequate in September 2018 after Ofsted found children in need of protection in Bradford have been left "at risk of serious harm".

    Little improvement has been made to protect vulnerable children in Bradford months after Ofsted raised concerns.

    Discussing the Ofsted letter at a meeting, councillor Adrian Farley said: “We’re not in the place I’d like us to be.

    "It will take about two or three years to get to a place where the service will be rated good.”

    Mark Douglas took over as Strategic Director of Children’s Services last week.

    "I am confident we can get to where we want to, two to three years seems realistic", he added.

    Police are appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist suffered serious head injuries after a crash in Todmorden.

    A silver Yamaha motorcycle collided with a silver Citroen Berlingo at the junction of Burnley Road and Station Parade at about 21:30 on Saturday.

    West Yorkshire Police said the motorcyclist is being treated in hospital while the driver of the Citroen was uninjured.

    A new scheme will see emergency packs given out containing toothbrushes, snacks, baby wipes, water and socks.

    South Yorkshire Police said the scheme gives "access to vital everyday items straight away" with the first packs "gratefully received" last week.

    Det Ch Insp Mick Hakin said: “Modern slavery survivors deserve the dignity that is so often denied them by their exploiters and need to feel that they are safe.

    "A simple collection of essential items such as toothbrushes and sanitary products might seem a simple thing to you and I, but to a vulnerable person in crisis, they mean so much more.”

    A motorcyclist from Driffield, who was killed in a collision near Whitby, has been named by police.

    Howard Hughes died after his red Ducati 1299 motorbike was involved in a collision on the A171, just south of the village of Hawsker.

    He was travelling in the direction of Whitby with two other motorbikes when he collided with a red Volkswagen Transporter van at about 07:15 on Sunday.

    The 62-year-old died at the scene and today his family released a statement saying he was "dearly loved" and will be "greatly missed".

    The driver of the Volkswagen Transporter, a 38-year-old man from the Midlands area, was arrested at the scene and has been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

    North Yorkshire Police are appealing to anyone who saw either of the vehicles prior to the incident, or who witnessed the collision, to come forward.
