    A package containing drugs and mobile phones with an estimated prison value of £50,000 has been recovered from the grounds of HMP Wealstun, near Wetherby.

    The haul, which included 1,000 Class A pills, 40 sheets of A4 paper soaked in Spice, steroids, needles and syringes, was discovered on 3 July after being thrown into the jail.

    It also contained mobile phones, chargers and sim cards.

    Sgt Kevin Hussey, of West Yorkshire Police, said: "The contents of this package had the potential to cause a great deal of harm within the prison.

    "We are now carrying out inquiries to identify those responsible."

    A man has been found guilty of trying to make a bomb to be used in a driverless car.

    Farhad Salah, of Brunswick Road, Sheffield, was convicted at Sheffield Crown Court of preparing to commit acts of terrorism.

    Jurors heard how Salah, 24, an Iraqi Kurd, posted on social media about using a driverless car in an attack.

    The jury failed to reach a verdict on his co-defendant, chip-shop owner Andy Star, who was charged with the same offence.

    Prosecutors told the trial how Salah and Mr Star, 32, were in the early stages of testing small improvised explosive devices when they were arrested in raids on their homes in a Sheffield community centre and a Chesterfield fish and chip shop in December 2017

    Mr Star, from Chesterfield, has always insisted gunpowder and other items found in his flat above the chip shop were all connected to his long-standing interest in fireworks.

    Salah is due to be sentenced on 24 July.

    Sheffield Wednesday sold their Hillsborough stadium for about £60m to owner Dejphon Chansiri to try to ensure they did not breach spending rules.

    Sheffield Wednesday Football Club Limited sold the ground for a profit of more than £38m, helping them record a pre-tax profit of £2.5m for 2017-18.

    The accounts say, external an "income" of £61.2m is to come from "related parties".

    Chansiri, their only active director, had previously said the club broke financial rules by "eight figures".

    Without the sale of the ground, Wednesday would have posted a pre-tax loss of £35.4m.

    Officers have released a CCTV image of the man, believed to have information about damage caused to a black Volkswagen Polo, which was parked on Park Lane in Barlow.

    North Yorkshire Police are investigating the incident, which happened between 13:30 and 19:00 on 12 May, and want to hear from anyone who recognises the man in picture.

    A 19-year-old woman was walking along Barnsley Road on 21 June at about 22:20 when she was reportedly grabbed by the man and assaulted.

    The suspect is described to be about 5ft 7ins tall and of skinny build.

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a car collided with a bicycle in the early hours of this morning.

    The vehicle had reportedly tailed the cyclist before mounting the kerb and hitting the bicycle on Fortune Close shortly after midnight.

    The man who was riding the bike was taken to hospital with minor injuries following the collision.

    Humberside Police said a 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and dangerous driving in connection with the incident.

    The force has appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.

    Plans opposed by Sir David Attenborough to build hundreds of homes near to a nature reserve have been refused.

    Developers wanted to build 516 houses on land next to Askham Bog on the outskirts of York.

    Sir David and the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust spoke out against the plans in January, which resulted in more than 7,600 people petitioning to save the area.

    City of York Council’s planning committee said they concerns about the impact on the bog as well as transport, health services and schools in the area.

    Yorkshire Wildlife's Trust Louise Wilkinson, said: "We couldn’t be happier with this outcome both for the wildlife at the bog and for the people who have supported us."

    The family of a three-year-old boy who survived after falling into a six-metre deep hole in the Peak District are appealing to help the hospital who saved him.

    Sam Tuckett (second from left), from Sheffield, was enjoying a family day out when he suddenly disappeared as he was walking with his six-year-old brother Oscar, just a few steps ahead of his parents Louise and Mark in the Burbage Rocks area, near Hathersage.

    Mr Tuckett, 40, (above left) managed to squeeze into the tiny space - a gap no bigger than a sheet of A3 paper - and realised his son had hit his head and body on the rocks as he fell.

    After his dad managed to bring him to the surface, Sam was taken to Sheffield Children's Hospital where a team of 10 members of staff spent eight-hours stabilising him.

    His family are now backing the Children’s Hospital Charity’s £4.5m appeal to transform the emergency department.

    “We experienced first-hand that the Emergency Department needs to be developed", said Mrs Tuckett (pictured second-right).

    "The care was fantastic, but we never realised how well the staff manage with the limited space."

    Officers say thieves are stealing car keys during burglaries taking "high value marques such as Mercedes, BMWs, and Audis" in the early hours in the morning.

    Humberside Police say they've noticed there has been a pattern emerging recently in the Sutton and Bransholme areas of Hull.

    Members of the public are being encourage to close gates overnight, use garages where possible and consider installing CCTV.

    Police say an 18-year-old man and 16-years-old have been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

    An Indiana Jones actor will unveil a display remembering his grandfather and other men held at a North Yorkshire prisoner of war camp.

    Naval officer Fritz Sachsse was among hundreds of Germans at Raikeswood Camp in Skipton at the end of World War One.

    Researchers have now translated a diary Lieutenant Commander Sachsse wrote at the camp.

    They then realised his grandson was Wolf Kahler who was Nazi colonel Herman Dietrich in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

    Kahler said: "It'll be a very moving event for me when the board is revealed, I'm so amazed about the number of people who have been involved in the investigations and research.

    Travel companies from across the UK are laying on buses to take shoppers to a Primark store.

    The world's biggest Primark, covering 161,000 sq ft over five floors, opened its doors in Birmingham city centre in April.

    Travel firms said a shopping trip to the West Midlands had been one of their most popular attractions of the year.

    Primark said there had been a "hugely positive reaction" to the new £70m store.

    Yorkshire-based CAB Executive Travel said it had already laid on four bus trips to the outlet with two more planned from Doncaster and Scunthorpe next week.
