    More than 28,000 people attended this year's Sheffield Doc Fest, up from 25,500 the previous year.

    This year's festival featured 182 documentaries, over half of which were directed by women, and attracted people from 59 different countries.

    The event began in 1994 and now spans over six days.

    Organisers said the festival also provided a £2.5m boost to the city's economy.

    A man who was reported missing form his home in Rotherham has been found.

    South Yorkshire Police tweeted to say Brett Tattersley, who was reported missing on Wednesday morning, has been found "safe and well".

    Police have issued a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to after £230 of spirits were stolen from a supermarket in Settle.

    It's believed the man in the picture has information that can help with the investigation into the theft of brandy, whisky and rum from the Booths store on Kirkgate.

    Anyone who recognises him or who has any information about the incident on 26 June is asked to get in touch with North Yorkshire Police.

    Swan eggs that were close to hatching have been stamped on in what police have described as a "sickening" incident.

    The swan's nest, built on the towpath of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, near Dockfield Road, Shipley, was targeted between 2 and 4 July.

    Wildlife Officer Shaun Taylor said: "This is a sickening and pointless crime.

    "If anyone has any information I urge you to contact police."

    A Bradford nightclub could be turned into a church at a cost of up to £4.6 million, the Anglican Diocese of Leeds has revealed.

    Plans have been submitted to convert buildings at Glydegate Square that were formerly home to clubs including Revolution, Tequila and Vibe,.

    If approved, 'Fountains Church', will keep its exterior and have its interior re-built.

    The Archdeacon of Bradford, Ven Andy Jolley, said: “We are in advanced negotiations with the current leaseholder and Bradford Council about the building, and securing planning permission for the change of use is a key part of the process.”

    A decision is expected in late August.

    The ex-English Defence League leader was found guilty last week of interfering with the trial of a sexual grooming gang at Leeds Crown Court in May 2018.

    Two Old Bailey judges said his Facebook Live video of defendants in the trial had encouraged "vigilante action".

    Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, called the sentence an "absolute joke".

    Campaigners want a plan to build 500 houses near a North Yorkshire nature reserve to be voted down at a key meeting later today, with Sir David Attenborough opposing the development.

    Councillors will decide whether to allow 500 homes to be built next to Askham Bog an ancient nature reserve south of York.

    Planning officers say it should be refused and City of York Council has already received more than 7,600 objections.

    Sir David spoke out against the plans in January describing Askham Bog as a "remarkable survivor of the ancient fenlands".

    A care home for people with learning disabilities has been described as unsafe by the health watchdog after inspectors found a raft of failings, including one resident being allowed to drink alcohol while on medication.

    Prospect House, in Altofts, is back in special measures only a year after being taken out of them by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

    Inspectors have highlighted several failings within the service, which cared for seven people at the time of their visit in May.

    A report by the CQC said that prescription drugs were not managed safely at the premises, on Drury Lane, and in one case a patient was allowed to drink beer despite being on medication which specified they should not consume alcohol.

    Prospect House now has six months to make big improvements to the service or else face closure.

    The home’s management declined to comment.

    Parents whose baby's ashes were scattered without their knowledge will meet with a government health minister today.

    Jackie Doyle-Price, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, will meet families in Hull.

    Hull City Council and the boss of Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals Trust will also be at the meeting to answer questions.

    There have been calls for a public inquiry after 57 families in Hull were not given their child's remains, an internal investigation by the city council found.

    A major road connecting Doncaster villages will shut for the whole of the school summer holidays while Yorkshire Wildlife Park undergoes improvements.

    The park developments include a new entrance, a roundabout, bus stops and road maintenance.

    Hurst Lane in Auckley will be closed off from 22 July until 1 September.

    A diversion will take vehicles along Hayfield Lane, Gate House Lane and Mosham Road.

    Yorkshire Wildlife Park is currently undergoing a 150-acre expansion.

    Two more men have been charged with murder after a Bradford man was found dead in the road earlier this month.

    The body of 20-year-old Mohammed Feazan Ayaz (above) was found in Saffron Drive on 1 July.

    Junaid Hussain, 27, of Silverhill Road, Bradford and Raheel Khan, 27, of no fixed address, have been charged with murder.

    They're due to appear before Bradford Magistrates' Court later.

    A 47-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released on bail.

    In total 14 people have so far been arrested or charged in relation to Mr Ayaz's death.

    The discovery of a possible Iron Age settlement near York's outer ring road has pushed the cost of upgrading a roundabout up by more than £450,000.

    Archaeologists unearthed evidence of a prehistoric settlement in 2018 during work on the Wetherby Road roundabout as part of a £38m project to improve the A1237 York Outer Ring Road.

    A large ring ditch, described as "one of the biggest to be unearthed in York", was found, along with fragments of pottery.

    According to a council report, the discovery, along with a series of other setbacks, has led to rising costs and may impact on the "scale and scope" of planned improvements to six other roundabouts along the route.

    A motorcyclist has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after being involved in a crash with a lawn mower in Rotherham.

    It happened at about 08:30 on Woodall Lane, Harthill yesterday.

    The 45-year-old motorcyclist remains in hospital receiving treatment, police said.

    Witnesses to the crash are asked to get in touch with police.

  18. Yorkshire Water treating burst water main as 'emergency'published at 09:24 British Summer Time 11 July 2019

    Yorkshire Water says it is treating a burst water main in Sheffield as an emergency but has warned people it could take up to six hours to repair.

    Earlier we told you about the traffic problems caused by the burst main on the A61 St Mary's Road, with one lane being closed.

    Since then Lowfield Primary School, on London Road, has said it will be closed to staff and pupils all day due to a lack of water, as has Sheffield Mind's Wellbeing Centre, in Sharrow Lane.

    Residents in the S2, S7 and S11 are affected.
