    A woman is seriously ill in hospital in Sheffield after a caravan hit her when it broke free from the car which was towing it.

    The 69-year-old pedestrian is described as being in a life-threatening condition after the crash in the city.

    The caravan was being pulled by a white Toyota Avensis before it became "disconnected" in Carson Mount at about 14:20 yesterday, according to South Yorkshire Police.

    The force has made an appeal for witnesses to the incident to contact them.

    A man is due in court on death by dangerous driving counts after two men died in a three-vehicle crash in Hampshire.

    The collision, involving an LGV, a Peugeot van and a Toyota Auris, happened on the A34 southbound at Bullington Cross at about 09:20 BST on 3 July.

    Vipin Kumar, 43, from Reading, and Kevin Ackrell, 49, from Trowbridge, Wiltshire, died.

    A 41-year-old man, from Huddersfield, has been reported for summons for two offences of causing death by dangerous driving. He is due to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on 30 July.

    A motorist was injured during an altercation in York, suffering bruising and deep grazes to his foot.

    Police say the incident took place in the Hopgrove area and involved a red Land Rover and a grey Volvo XC60.

    Afterwards, both vehicles drove to Monks Cross and went around the Asda and Sainsbury’s roundabout multiple times before separating.

    Both drivers have been spoken to by police over the incident by the overpass, in the direction of the Toby Carvery, at 14:20 on Saturday 14 July.

    North Yorkshire Police are appealing for information about the actions of both parties involved, "in regards to any verbal or physical interaction and vehicle movements".

    Officers want to identify the woman in the photographs after the incident on Coney Street which involved an iPhone 10.

    North Yorkshire Police want to hear from anyone who recognises the woman who is believed to have information that will help with the investigation.

    The amount of litter dumped on the Yorkshire coast has gone up by nearly 20% since last year, it's been claimed.

    The warning comes from the Marine Conservation Society and is based on information from its team of volunteers.

    The organisation monitors beaches around the country and says the amount of plastic ending up in the sea off the Yorkshire coast is continuing to go up and is at its highest ever level across the UK.

    The society is expected to raise concerns with councillors in Scarborough later today.

    More than £400,000 is being spent restoring a North Yorkshire beauty spot which was once described by a royal as "heaven on earth" to its former glory.

    Plumpton Rocks, near Knaresborough, was once a popular destination for everyone from the paying public to the royal family, and was notably praised by Queen Mary, the wife of King George V.

    But it fell into decline towards the end of the last century and was eventually put on Historic England’s Heritage at Risk Register in 2012.

    Historic England has already given £311,000 to a major restoration project at the artificial lake, which is set against a backdrop of dramatic rock formations and surrounded by 30 acres of beautiful parkland.

    The Grade II*-listed site, which was painted twice by famous artist JW Turner, will now get a £103,160 grant for essential works.

    Giles Proctor, from Historic England, said: “Plumpton Rocks is one of North Yorkshire’s most impressive historic gardens, and the restoration work will help to ensure it remains so for future generations.

    "We hope many people will now visit the site to enjoy the same views that inspired Turner over 200 years ago.”

    Leeds-born British double Olympic medallist Jonathan Brownlee has won his first World Triathlon Series gold medal for two years in Edmonton, Canada.

    The 29-year-old won in 54 minutes 52 seconds - five seconds ahead of second-placed Spaniard Mario Mola.

    "I'd be lying to say that it doesn't hurt when people say, 'He's past it'," said Brownlee.

    "It's been tough, but I finally won something. I was just having bad luck after bad luck."

    The Briton - who was series champion in 2012 - produced a strong swim to finish within the top five, was in the leading pack on his bike, and then held off Mola's challenge in the 5km run.

    Staff at Bradford hospitals have voted to take further strike action over plans to set up a new company to run the facilities.

    Bradford Teaching Hospitals Trust wants to transfer workers such as porters and cleaners to a subsidiary company.

    More than 300 staff from the estates and facilities team are set to strike for two weeks starting on 1 August, with an option for continuous strike action, the Unison union said.

    Tony Pearson, from the union, said: "Striking is always a last resort for our members. They have been left with no alternative but to continue with industrial action."

    It follows a previous seven-day strike earlier this month.

    The hospitals trust has been contacted for comment.

    Suspects broke into a warehouse in Elvington last week stealing a large number of juicing machines.

    Police are investigating the incident which happened at Harrier Court between 17:00 on Thursday and 08:45 on Friday.

    Officers are appealing for information about suspicious activity around Elvington airfield industrial estate at around the time of the burglary.

    North Yorkshire Police are also appealing for information about anyone seen trying to sell a large number of juicers.

    It follows a police appeal about a similar incident earlier in the same month, with between £10,000 and £20,000 worth of blenders, juicers and dehydrators, external taken.
