The communications manager of Sheffield Hallam MP Jared O'Mara has resigned in a flurry of angry tweets published on the MP's own Twitter account.

    Jared O'Mara

In a thread, Gareth Arnold - a member of Mr O'Mara's constituency staff - accused him of showing "inexcusable contempt" for constituents.

"Jared, you are the most disgustingly morally bankrupt person I have ever had the displeasure of working with," was posted from Mr O'Mara's account., external

The Twitter thread continued: "Sheffield Hallam deserves so much better than you. You have wasted opportunities which people dare not to even dream of."

The thread told the MP to "call a by-election" and told Mr O'Mara to consider the Twitter posts as his "resignation".

Mr O'Mara, 37, quit the Labour party in July 2018 after being suspended over alleged misogynistic and homophobic comments posted online.

The BBC has asked Mr O'Mara to comment.

    Jackson’s Yorkshire’s Champion BreadImage source, Jackson’s Yorkshire’s Champion Bread

Jackson's has announced the "ethically-driven change", claiming its products are the first bread brand in the country to go palm oil-free.

The substance is linked to huge deforestation over the years, although Jackson’s says it only ever used palm oil from "a fully segregated sustainable source".

David Balmer, the firm's managing director, said: “While we’ve only ever used sustainable palm oil in our products, the people who buy our bread have demanded more."

The company said that across the food industry brands are becoming "increasingly alert" to the impact ingredients such as unsustainable palm oil can have on the environment.

But while many brands are backing sustainable options, environmental campaigners continue to highlight the devastation caused by unsustainable palm oil.

Jackson’s makes more than 250,000 bloomers and rolls each week at its bakery in Hull, with the palm oil-free products going on sale in new packaging to reflect the change.

Police officers says finding an abandoned flock of rare breed Hebridean sheep in a North Yorkshire field was "one of the more unusual situations" they've experienced.

    SheepImage source, North Yorkshire Police

A mix of rams, ewes and lambs were found earlier this month dumped in a field in Pannal near Harrogate.

PCSO Matthew Cockerill, who is part of North Yorkshire Police’s Rural Taskforce, said it's not known if the 32 animals have been stolen.

"It's very sad that a group of animals would be abandoned like this with no consideration for their safety and welfare," he said.

“We don’t know what circumstances could have led to the sheep being left in this way...but we hope we can find whoever's responsible and ensure the flock has a secure home for the future."

The sheep are now being looked after by a local farmer and police are appealing for anyone with information about them to get in touch.
