    A suspected thief posed as a council worker to get into a 94-year-old woman's home in Hull and steal her purse and walking stick.

    The woman invited the bogus caller into her home after he claimed to be from the council but, when he left 20 minutes later, she realised her purse, which contained a small amount of money, was gone, police say.

    Officers are trying to track down a suspect, described as white, about 5ft 8ins, slim, clean shaven and wearing a brown rain coat, following the incident on Hardy Street at about 12:00 yesterday.

    Humberside Police are reminding members of the public to "be vigilant if they are suspicious about anyone who comes to their door" and always ask for identification.

    CCTV images have been released of two people police want to speak to in connection with a robbery on a busy Sheffield road last month.

    The victim was led down an alleyway by two men after withdrawing £100 on West Street at about 04:30 on 11 July.

    The 19-year-old was then assaulted before the suspects left the scene with his wallet and bank card.

    The card was used a short time later at a petrol station.

    A man has been arrested after a petrol bomb was allegedly thrown at a house in Hull.

    Humberside Police said a 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson and criminal damage in connection with the incident on Mersey Street on 28 July.

    He’s been bailed to appear at a police station later this month with police appealing continuing to carry out investigations.

    The force believe three other men may have been involved and want to hear from any witnesses or anyone with information.

    A decision on whether to renew the licence of a controversial Sheffield strip club is due to be made next month.

    Sheffield City Council’s sub-licensing committee will meet on 16 September to make a decision to either grant or deny a licence to Spearmint Rhino, in Brown Street.

    In April Zero Option Sheffield said private investigators witnessed dancers performing sex acts at the venue during two undercover visits and called for it to be shut down.

    However, staff have staged protests outside the Town Hall to keep it open.

    The road was shut in both directions between Junction 1 at Chain Bar and Junction 3 at Staygate for more than three hours.

    Thanking motorists for their patience, Highways England warned there may be some delays while the traffic clears.

    Workers at Drax power station have accepted a new pay offer after threatening to go on strike.

    Almost 400 workers had been set to stage six, 48-hour walkouts between July and December over a pay dispute.

    But the strike was suspended just days before the first walk was due to take place out after a new pay offer was made.

    The Unite union say workers voted by "large majority" to accept the offer "which was hammered out after a tough set of negotiations".

    Regional officer Kelvin Mawer said: “Unite looks forward to a continuing constructive relationship with the management on pay and employment issues going forward."

    A Drax spokesman said: “We are pleased to announce that a pay dispute at Drax Power Station has been resolved with members of the Unite, GMB and Prospect unions voting in favour of accepting an improved two year pay deal offered by Drax.”

    Cannabis plants worth about £320,000 were found growing at a property off Roseville Road in Harehills as police searched 12 addresses across the city

    Thursday's raids, which were part of Operation Momentum, saw 14 people arrested and £60,000 worth of class A drugs seized.

    In May, West Yorkshire Police arrested 21 people as part of the same operation and recovered weapons including an axe, knives and a Taser.

    Leeds United have given their backing to Jordan Stevens after the teenager was charged by the Football Association with a breach of betting regulations.

    In a statement issued on the club's site, external, Leeds said they were "committed to standing by and supporting" Stevens.

    The midfielder, 19, who was signed from Forest Green in February 2018, is alleged to have placed 59 bets last season and has accepted the FA charge.

    He has made one first-team appearance since arriving at Elland Road.
